I've never posted before and understand if this is not posted or is inappropriate..please delete.

I have not been able to find an answer to the meaning of a dream I had as follows.

The dream: My stepfather and a young woman came to work to pick me up, I told him that I wasn't ready to go and he said that he would wait for me.

Background: My stepfather lived with me for a year before he died and we were very close. I always heard that if you see the dead in a dream you should pay close attention to any word spoken. My husband is more freaked than I am but I still wonder at the meaning.

Is this a warning or a message of love?

Having been on the receiving end of a similar dream many years ago, I’d say it was his way of letting you know that he is OK.

It means you should loan old Hardastarboard $1,000 in $20 bills. Mr. James Robinson will be my intermediary.

Seriously, I've had dreams about the dead before. In my mind, it usually means that you just miss the dead person and wish they were still around. I'm no mental health expert, it's just how I felt after I had those kinds of dreams.

I tend to dream about things that disturb me, have me troubled, or unanswered questions that don’t leave me even when I sleep. I think that is what happens to most folks?

Since you were very close to your stepfather, it is not unusual to have a dream about him. Chances are he was on your mind.

Interesting... When I dream of the dead (dad, mom, or my chldhood best friend) they never speak to me. In any case, when it comes to dreams, it’s important to rely on feelings. How did you feel in the dream - ot how did it make you feel? Now, apply that same feeling to any experience or experiences you’ve had lately. It is likely the dream reflects something that evokes the same feeling.

One example might be - I had a dream recently where I had to change a flat tire of an old truck buried in deep snow. I was with friends/family, but they couldn’t help. The feeling was that I didn’t mind doing it, but it was going to be difficult and take a long time. In my waking hours, I feel isolated from friends only because I’m so busy with work right now. I know that I’ll be freed up in January to rejoin them. The feelings are a match, although the “dream actions” might not make sense.

Tonight seems to just be the night for strange vanities, but I’ll bite.

Dreams are by far and away merely your subconscious mind continuing to work on recent problems from your waking life. There are clear symbols, there are not-so-clear symbols and then there are emotions associated with them. It can be jumbled and confusing, but there’s almost always a thread tying it all back to recent concerns of yours.

Describe the dream in greater detail, paying attention to how things looked, how they felt, was this set in the current or in the past? Sunny, dark and threatening? Nice car, beat up old car, familiar car?

This will help you begin to sort out the symbols and associations.

Wild card is the young woman with him. What could she represent? You’re female, unless I’m misinterpreting your screen name.

Pull all this together, work, your late beloved stepfather, a young woman with him, waiting for you, plus the things that would shade it toward positive or negative, happy or sad.

In my experience, nine times out of ten, a lightbulb will go off and you’ll say, well I’ll be, I was worrying about my job and was thinking about my stepfather because he lost his job way back when, or some similar thing.

Work, stepfather, young woman, car, picking you up. Points to the past when you depended upon him, imho. Do you have a sister or stepsister?

That’s at least a start.

It’s a dream.

Sounds like there is something in your life that you are unprepared for and not ready to do...(but your father is patient and will wait for you.) Wondering if there is something your heavenly Father has prepared for you to do...but it isn’t the time...you are still in preparation...he is waiting for you. Not sure who the woman could represent...but if you pray about it..I am sure the meaning of this dream will become clear...all you have to do is ask Him.

i don't claim to have any knowledge except life/trials experience.

perhaps your subconscious ("you") is missing your stepfather. he was very dear to you, right?

You are still there with him. Take comfort. God is with you.

Perhaps you've been thinking of your stepfather around the holidays and that's why he was in your dream. Your dreams are just a visual representation of your thoughts.

I dreamed of both my (deceased) parents recently and I hardly ever do. We were going somewhere and they told me to get ready.

The most interesting thing about the dream (other than getting to see and talk to my mom and dad) was the vehicle my father was driving. It was an old-fashioned (1940s model maybe) convertible with its top down. It was a very shiny brown-and-white TWEED patterned body. Almost like decoupaged paper mache'. Definitely a unique car!

Sorry to disappoint you, but...Its just a dream.

Give no attention to it. Its a random collection of thoughts generated by your mind during the REM stage of sleep.

...and in your 7th and 8th hours of sleep, you’re storing stuff in your long-term memory, building new connections, and pruning old ones.

We’re really busy when we sleep!
