The advantages that come off of being part of a social structure far, far outweigh those of solitary existence. Since that social structure is so crucial to mankind's advancement, what would you expect when the glue that holds it together - which is the principle of reciprocity - breaks down?
If stealing, lying and violence were allowed, it not only ends up breaking society apart, but the consequences will spill onto the descendants of the person committing the crimes from suffering the ills of a broken society, directly affecting that individual's evolutionary trajectory, sufficiently providing an incentive strong enough to ensure a minimum level of social stability for the species to thrive. This is why the Golden Rule has arisen amongst disparate cultures all over the world. The Chinese and the Indians have had versions that are aeons older than those from any other society.

LORD! of the men who serve Thee—true in heart—
As God revealed; and of the men who serve,
Worshipping Thee Unrevealed, Unbodied, far,
Which take the better way of faith and life?

In Christianity our life is IN Christ and for that our enternal security is assured. Though we are intradependant with our fellow man, our life is not dependant on mankinds advancement nor it's social structure. Rather on the relationship we have with Him as He is the giver of life and as much the one we seek concerning the decisions and paths of life we follow.
.... This often does involve our fellow man as our God loves to use people to bring about His will. But He does not need people...He can and does move in this world and among people as well without their co-operation.
Christianity serves a risen Christ...not a departed God or Gods....Our God is alive and well with many proofs that He is Lord of Lords and King over all kings as well as the earht and Heavens. He does not stoop to "other Gods" which men seek and worship...who have departed this earth and only a manmade idol of them remains.
The crime rate in pagan Japan is much, much lower than in Christian America. I have seen women walking home after work at 1 AM. Where can you see that in our cities? Their first graders walk home after school.
