From the article: Warn them that they will encounter people who pick which commandments they will keep and ignore others that they choose to break. I call this the CAFETERIA approach to obedience. This practice of picking and choosing will not work. It will lead to misery.

This is a tacit admission -- coming at one of the two important conferences Mormons hold each year -- that what is widely known as "cafeteria Mormonism" has made its presence very well known to Mormon leaders.

Yet, c'mon. Who can really blame grassroots Mormons? Even Nelson and the rest of the Mormon general authorities are CAFETERIA Mormons when it comes to some "commandments" from the Mormon gods. Want several examples? Keep reading

From the general conference talk: Nelson, citing Mormon Doctrine & Covenants 85:3, said: Not only that, tithing will keep your name enrolled among the people of God and protect you in “the day of vengeance and burning.”

(Ah....nothing like a lil religious fire insurance, eh?...Just keep sending me 10% and I can promise you, per Smith, that your post-life will be singe-free...Nothin' like modern-day indulgences being sold at religious fairs...Why...I wonder why Nelson didn't cite D&C 64:23-24? -- which says it even stronger:)
‘Verily, it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall NOT BE BURNED at His coming. For after today cometh the burning,’ that is, at the coming of the Son of Man, ‘for verily I say, tomorrow’ – that is, at the Lord’s coming – ‘all the proud and they that do wickedly shall be as stubble; and I will burn them up, for I am the Lord of Hosts.” (D&C 64:23, 24)

(Nothin' like a lil' threat of hellfire to get people to pay up, eh?)

“The law of tithing, as embodied in the revelations referred to, [in Sec. 119], is an immutable decree of Jehovah to His people, and admits of no evasion by those who would enjoy the blessings of the faithful on the land of Zion, or be classed among the righteous, and avoid the burning at the coming of our Lord.” (Principles of the Gospel, pp. 174-177.)

Q. What does D&C 119 talk about?
A. “Verily, thus saith the Lord, I require all their surplus property to be put into the hands of the bishop of my church in Zion," (D&C 119:1)

[Ah, it still went beyond the 10%...Mormon socialism...whereby its God "REQUIRE[s] all their surplus property to be put into the hands of the bishop of my church in Zion..." (D&C 119:1)]

Since tens of thousands of Mormons aren't doing that -- and probably tens of Mormon general authorities --...they've held on to their "surplus property"...there ya have it...

There ya have it -- Law #1 that is making even Mormonism's hierarchical leaders "CAFETERIA" Mormons!!!!

Mormon Law #2 disobeyed by all Mormons -- the "everlasting order" called the United Order prophesied by Smith in 1834...a "promise" that was to be "immutable and unchangeable..." (D&C 134:1-2)

1Verily I say unto you, my friends, I give unto you counsel, and a commandment, concerning all the properties which belong to the order which I commanded to be organized and established, to be a united order, and an everlasting order for the benefit of my church, and for the salvation of men until I come—2With promise immutable and unchangeable...

Mitt Romney's father's cousin, one of the three highest in the hierarchy of the Mormon church for a long time, blamed the Lord for not keeping this "everlasting...immutable and unchangeable" command for less than four years in a 1982 talk Marion Romney gave:

In 1838, four years later, the Lord gave the law of tithing. By this time, the Lord having previously withdrawn the requirement that the Saints live the united order, the Church was in grave financial difficulty because it did not have a revenue law.

Yet Romney didn't assign ultimate blame to their god for failing to keep his supposed "everlasting...immutable and unchangeable" promise. No. Marion Romney said that they were supposed to take care of the poor "according to the law of the united order." "This they failed to do," said Romney, "and as a consequence, they went through the Jackson County, Missouri, persecutions.
Source: Marion Romney, New Era, 1982 http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=93bcad74be99b010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&vgnextoid=024644f8f206c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD

Therefore and wherefore contemporary Mormons commonly blame Missourians for being persecuted in the 1830s...one of the three highest-ranking Mormons, Marion Romney, claimed in 1982 that it was due to the Mormons failing to keep the "everlasting" United Order.

It must also be remembered that when mormons say “god’s blessings” they are talking about stuff.

Mormon Law #3 which is disobeyed by Most Mormons: What Joseph Smith referenced as 'The Law of Sarah' (D&C 132:65) -- which he also referenced as part of 'law of the priesthood' (D&C 132:61)

Q.Who was Sarah? (Abraham's Wife)

Q. What did Sarah do? (She told her slave girl, Hagar, to sleep with her husband, Abraham)

Q. Does the Bible say God commanded this?

A. No. Nowhere. In fact, it was just the opposite of Abraham and Sarah waiting to see how God would miraculously allow Isaac to be conceived despite Sarah being in her 90s...as for the slave girl, she became the matriarch of the fierce rivals to God's people through the centuries...from which the Muslims have descended...Joseph Smith claimed that God commanded Abraham to sleep with his wife's slave -- D&C 132:34-35, 65

Q. Doesn't Wilford Woodruff's Manifesto of 1890 rescind the Mormon 'Law of Sarah?'

A.
(a) the Manifesto didn't stop plural marriages in 1890. The highest Lds leaders continued to secret sanction new plural marriages for the next 20 years...where between 200-300 known plural unions were extended;
(b) the Manifesto never asked existing polygamous families to break apart...some polygamous unions sanctioned by the church in the early 1900s were still around up until the early 1960s;
(c) The Manifesto doesn't touch what happens beyond this world...Mormons who marry more than one spouse consecutively right now -- and are sealed to them "for eternity" -- supposedly become eternal polygamists by the church's own teachings! In other words, the mainstream Mormon church endorses colonized polygamy! (On the planet Kolob, for example) [If it's 'morally legit' on Kolob, then what's wrong with Earth?)
(d) The Manifesto was not meant to be a Mormon eternal law. Else why would Lds apostle Bruce McConkie, in his book Mormon Doctrine, say that Jesus would re-institute polygamy on planet Earth when he came back? Why would McConkie call "polygamy" a "holy practice?"
(e) Hence, Mormons leaders, looking at their teachings, obviously didn't -- and would never -- take D&C 132 off of the Mormon sacred commands. D&C 132 still exists for Mormons.

Q. What does D&C132 command Mormons to do?

A. Let's look at it:

...3 ... prepare thy heart to receive and obey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same.
4... I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for NO ONE can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory
6And as pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God.

[Pretty serious stuff so far...new commands given...NO ONE can reject it...lest they be "damned"]

Note then how Smith immediately slipped into "legalese" -- as if he was a car -dealer commercial adding the fast-talking disclaimer at the end of a commercial:

7And verily I say unto you, that the conditions of this law are these: All covenants, contracts, bonds, obligations, oaths, vows, performances, connections, associations, or expectations, that are not made and entered into and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, of him who is anointed, both as well for time and for all eternity, and that too most holy, by revelation and commandment through the medium of mine anointed, whom I have appointed on the earth to hold this power (and I have appointed unto my servant Joseph to hold this power in the last days, and there is never but one on the earth at a time on whom this power and the keys of this priesthood are conferred), are of no efficacy, virtue, or force in and after the resurrection from the dead; for all contracts that are not made unto this end have an end when men are dead.

[Yeah, that sounds like "God" talking...doesn't it?]

Smith then goes thru shenanigan language for verse after verse -- all as a set-up addressed personally to #1 wife Emma -- to get her to capitulate to this practice of Smith that he's already been engaging in for a dozen years (1831-1843)...and that is sleeping around! But then he opens the door so that this same sleeping around could occur -- as long as the "first" wife agrees:

61And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood—if any man espouse a virgin, and DESIRE to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.

[Then in v. 62, Smith starts "goin' Muslim" on us, where he starts edging into "double figures" for accumulating virgins...but ya don't have to wait til Kolobville:]

62And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.

[There ya go...Smith justifying double-figure polygamy...in v. 62...lambasting first wives who fail to allow that -- threatening them with being destroyed in v. 64:]

64And again, verily, verily, I say unto you, if any man have a wife, who holds the keys of this power, and he teaches unto her the law of my priesthood, as pertaining to these things, then shall she believe and administer unto him, or she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord your God; for I will destroy her; for I will magnify my name upon all those who receive and abide in my law. 65Therefore, it shall be lawful in me, if she receive not this law, for him to receive all things whatsoever I, the Lord his God, will give unto him, because she did not believe and administer unto him according to my word; and she then becomes the transgressor; and he is exempt from the law of Sarah, who administered unto Abraham according to the law when I commanded Abraham to take Hagar to wife.

Another mormon falsehood: Not only that, tithing will keep your name enrolled among the people of God and protect you in “the day of vengeance and burning.

No wonder mormons are terrified not to tell their bishops how much they tithe, rather than tithing being between you and God, it has warped into something vile and distorted to protect you from an act of vengeance on the part of their many gods.

If I was a gambler, I could probably wage a million $ that not a single Mormon could name EVERY law mentioned by Lds general authorities on Lds.org.

Go ahead. Look in Lds.org. There are literally hundreds...
...and hundreds...
...and hundreds...
...and hundreds...
...and hundreds...
...and hundreds...
...of references to "the law of" in Lds.org.

And in those articles, are dozens...
...and dozens...
...and dozens...
...of laws they expect Mormons to obey.

Yet nowhere does Lds.org centralize ALL them or organize them in any kind of orderly fashion!

Guess what? If Mormons can't comprehensively name all of these laws, how are they going to even keep them?

More evidence that just about ALL -- if not ALL -- Mormons are "cafeteria" Mormons!

[What a crying shame, 'cause even Joseph Smith said: "We cannot keep all the commandments without first knowing them, and we cannot expect to know all, or more than we now know unless we comply with or keep those we have already received." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 256.)]

Warn them that they will encounter people who pick which commandments they will keep and ignore others that they choose to break.

Inasmuch as laws have been enacted by Congress forbidding plural marriage...
I hereby declare my intention to submit to those laws..."

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 89

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, February 27, 1833. HC 1: 327–329. As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. The first three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.

1–9, Use of wine, strong drinks, tobacco, and hot drinks proscribed; 10–17, Herbs, fruits, flesh, and grain are ordained for the use of man and of animals; 18–21, Obedience to gospel law, including the Word of Wisdom, brings temporal and spiritual blessings.

  1 A aWord OF Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion—
  2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the aword of wisdom, showing forth the order and bwill of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days—
  3 Given for a principle with apromise, adapted to the capacity of the bweak and the weakest of all csaints, who are or can be called saints.
  4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of aevils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of bconspiring men in the last days, I have cwarned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—
  5 That inasmuch as any man adrinketh bwine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
  6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, apure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
  7 And, again, astrong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.
  8 And again, tobacco is not for the abody, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.
  9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.
  10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome aherbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—
  11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with aprudence and bthanksgiving.
  12 Yea, aflesh also of bbeasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used csparingly;
  13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be aused, only in times of winter, or of cold, or bfamine.
  14 All agrain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth;
  15 And athese hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger.
  16 All grain is good for the afood of man; as also the bfruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground—
  17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.
  18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, ashall receive bhealth in their navel and marrow to their bones;
  19 And shall afind bwisdom and great ctreasures of dknowledge, even hidden treasures;
  20 And shall arun and not be bweary, and shall walk and not faint.
  21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the adestroying angel shall bpass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.
