Talk about digging a hole for yourself. This is what the office of the President at Notre Dame is sending in response to people asking about why Roxanne Martino was invited to sit on their board:
Ms. Martino (along with her husband, Rocco) is a Notre Dame graduate, and she is fully supportive of Church teaching on the sanctity of life.
She has through the years contributed to organizations that provide a wide range of important services and support to women. She did not realize, however, that several of these organizations also take a pro-choice position.
This is not her personal position, and she will now review all of her contributions to ensure that she does not again inadvertently support these kinds of activities in the future.
Im glad that M(r)s. Martino is fully supportive of Church teaching on the sanctity of life. I am.
But the idea that EMILYs List provides a wide range of important services and support to women is, to be blunt, baloney (and I dont mean baloney).
Furthermore, the idea that Mrs. Martino has been donating to Emilys List for twelve years right up until last year normally to the tune of $5,000 (the legal max amount, coincidentally, for designated donations to candidate campaigns and Emilys List ONLY endorses pro-abortion candidates) for a total of almost $30,000, without EVER realizing what Emilys List PROUDLY does that idea also beggars serious doubt.
Finally and this is my real point when committed, Catholic, pro-life people come to a Catholic university and, knowing all these facts in the public record, ask for an explanation, they deserve a forthright answer and an apology not a snow job.
Notre Dame never seems to miss an opportunity to strain its already tenuous relationship with Catholics of principle and passion. My patience with their current leadership has about snapped.
I would have given them a pass (as far as not doing their homework) if they had not already invited Obama to speak last year. As far as I am concerned they are a disappointment and can’t trust their excuse.
Yeah, and if they hadn't had that priest arrested for protesting abortion either...

It’s high time for the bishop of the Diocese where Notre Dame is located to withdraw their right to use the word “Catholic” in their identification.
At least he ought to suspend it for a period of 5 years to give them time to once again consider themselves a “Catholic” university.
It is absolutely insulting to lie like that and expect her critics to be stupid enough to believe her lies.
perhaps I am just old and ignorant of modern symbols...
I know what the zer0bama zero on the one hat means
what does the cross with the 2 feet mean...looks pornographic???
It's pro-life symbolism. The feet are baby footprints.

The Fellows elected Ms. Martino. They are specifically charged by the Universitys statutes with the duty of maintaining the Catholic character of the University. You may wish to get in touch with them. Here is their contact information. Let us know if any of these addresses do not work.

well then...was one of hat flashers trying to counter the other?? or did it...as it appears...that they were together.
very confusing.
So - if she is that dumb - is she really the type of person you need to fill a board seat?
Oh yeah, also - you are lying.
Here is how you should answer for this -
“look, she is loaded and more than happy to bankroll this place. It ain’t complicated.” “As for her personal beliefs - whatever, dude - we are Notre Dame and we have a boatload on dumb parents and a bevy of marginal students dying to come here...I mean it’s freakin country club man!”
I did not address the person...never heard of her before.
I simply asked what the ‘HAT’ stood for...I truly did not know the symbology of the HAT...
if she is pro-death...then she does not belong associated with a Catholic university...neither did the president, John Jenkins, of that school who had pro-life priests and nuns arrested, when zer0 spoke there.
No, they weren’t together. One was pro-Obama; the other was pro-child.
So ND wants us to believe that (a) one of their alums is too ignorant to know that she’s giving large amounts of money to support the election of pro-aborts to office, and (b) that alum is nevertheless well-qualified to sit on the ND Board of Trustees?
For a place that is touted to be such a great school, how can it's board members not have the sense to investigate before handing out money?
This is another example of why my son will be attending UVA this fall instead of Notre Dame.
Year’s ago, after spending a year at a Catyolic High School, my daughter told me she owuld never consider attending a Catholic College. The demons have taken over our schools and colleges. At least at UVA the enemy does not wear a mask. But check with the Newman Society to see how orthodox the chaplain is.
I think MD is down around Charlottesville somewhere and might be able to give you some input on that.
I believe he is also bound by a vow of proverty, as are all members of the Holy Cross Congregation.
You don't pay people big bucks to be incompetent.
You don't get board members for a $30 billion a year organization [maybe it is only $3 billion a year], and then that board member claim that they are totally ignorant of some organization that they have donated $30,000 to.
That is like saying it is okay to donate to Hitler and the Nazi Party if you are ignorant of what they are doing... It was just the patriotic thing to do...
I believe he is also bound by a vow of proverty, as are all members of the Holy Cross Congregation.
Not disagreeing with anything else you are posting, but I think if you'd check, there are a lot of religious who get paid for their work. Particularly those who work in educational institutions or in hospitals. I believe what happens is that their earnings are turned over to their religious institute and they receive a stipend to cover their expenses.
If this seems odd, remember that Notre Shame is no longer owned by the CSC. It is a nonprofit corporation controlled by its Board of Fellows.
Better to send them a pro-life, conservative president who will spend their billions in endowment money on pro-life causes.
That would be a fun ride.
