...(the official Mormon church)...still believes...the divine principle of plural marriage may apply in heaven. In the case of death or divorce, Mormon men can be sealed to another wife and all of their celestial marriages will be honored in eternity.

The LDS...tried to distance itself from...40,000 fundamentalist Mormons who still practice polygamy...

SNIP

Mormons wear special undergarments called a "temple garment"...designed to give "protection against temptation and evil."

Many Mormons believe the underwear provides spiritual protection.

"Well I will keep praying for you. Obviously, it was hard for you to walk the walk."

The Lies Mormons Tell, #23

Add in there the "attitude of superiority" which is plainly illustrated by benhoganfan..."Obviously, it was hard for you to walk the walk....(but i can "walk the walk" because I'm better than you...neener, neener.)

I know your heart aches for not being able to live the commandments. I know its hard and takes discipline.

Do you follow the commandments 100% of the time ben? Are you perfectly sinless in your life?

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 58:43: “By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will confess them and forsake them.”

1Jo 1:8 KJV - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

JAMES 2:10: “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

Spare us the platitudes ben - everyone knows that you don't live the commandments either. You haven't forsaken all your sins ben thus you haven't repented ben - because you continue to sin.

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 82:7: “And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God.

So tell us of this so-called perfection you live ben - all your old sins are back on your account the very moment you sin again.

ALMA 11:37: “And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.

This isn't looking too good for you Ben - you're stuck with all that sin over and over again. And since you cannot keep the commandments continually you can't be with heavenly father (D&C 25:15).

Because you continue to sin ben - you haven't cleansed your self of ALL UNGODLINESS, the grace of Jesus is NOT sufficient for you (MORONI 10:32)

So what do you do ben? "Repent" every day? Joseph Smith said: “Repentance is a thing that cannot be trifled with every day. Daily transgression and daily repentance is not that which is pleasing in the sight of God.” —Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 148

So ben, while you puff yourself up with pride ("I teach Sunday school", "Full tithe payer", etc) you own scriptures reveal you as: An unrepentant sinner who will be banished from heavenly father's presence because you have not done all for your own salvation.

Reaganaut can say she is 100% perfect (Mat 5:48) because of the Jesus she serves and worships.

You can't make the same claim ben, because you don't worship the same Jesus.

Some day the scales will come off your eyes and you will see that.

And since you cannot keep the commandments continually you can't be with heavenly father (D&C 25:15).

And yet, Godzilla, if Ben doesn't keep the commandments, what hope has he of eternal life per Joseph Smith?...for Smith adds in Doctrine & Covenants 14:7: "And IF you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all gifts."

Well, ben, which is it: Is eternal life a "gift" which is to be rec'd as all gifts are -- something you don't work for...or is it a merit-badge earned by commandment-keeping?

Isn't perfection your goal, ben? Yet what do you do with that verse Godzilla quoted -- James 2:10 -- that if you've broken one part of the Law, you are guilty of breaking all of it? Doesn't 3 Nephi 12:48 say "that ye should BE perfect" -- not simply become perfect in some future afterlife?

Are ye perfect, ben?

If ye think ye are, have ye read Jesus in Matthew 19:21?

21Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Have ye sold all ye have, ben? No? Is that computer yours you're typing from? Do ye realize God doesn't grade on a curve -- Mormon superiority vs. Gentile "less than?"

He expects perfection. Have ye done ALL ye can do? Physically? Morally? Spiritually? Emotionally? Relationally?

No? Then how will God's grace ever kick in for ye per 2 Nephi 25:23 if ye haven't done all ye can do? Did ye see that word "after" ben in 2 Nephi 25:23?...saved by grace AFTER...

"AFTER" what, ben?

After ALL ye can do? Ye can sell all ye have, right? That's something ye can still do, right?

Jesus said unto ben: ...If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor...

2 NEPHI 25:23: “For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.

At what point have you done enough to be sure that you will be saved? Are you certain that you have done ALL.

The prophet Spencer W. Kimball wrote in the "The Miracle of Forgiveness" -

“There is one crucial test of repentance. This is abandonment of the sin. …The saving power does not extend to him who merely wants to change his life. …Nor is repentance complete when one merely tries to abandon sin. ...To ‘try’ is weak. To ‘do the best I can’ is not strong. We must always do better than we can.” —The Miracle of Forgiveness, pp. 163-165

According to the prophet kimball - there can be NO forgiveness WITHOUT repentance (repentance defined as the complete and total removal of sin from one's life D&C 58:43 - a complete cessation of sin)

Critical point most mormons do not want to face - their's is an impossible task. Mormon's cannot honestly say "I do my best and Jesus does the rest" because kimball and mormon doctrine make it clear - states that sinless perfection is an absolute necessity to be attained by the hopeful, worthy, eligible or meritorious Mormon and failure to do so such failure to do so disqualifies one for Mormon exaltation.

So ben - how is keeping ALL of the commandments and ordinances working out for you lately?

NATIONAL?

Not quite:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will continue to manage the part of the site it owns, while the U.S. Forest Service will oversee its portion of the property 35 miles southwest of Cedar City.

Which is which?

Where’s the MAP?

Those are fouind in their OTHER scriptures.

Did you know that the MORMON god does NOT want his followers to eat MEAT?

Except in times of famine or cold weather?

I guess that would be #12 in the list of things little known about MORMONism!

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 89

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, February 27, 1833. HC 1: 327–329. As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. The first three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.

1–9, Use of wine, strong drinks, tobacco, and hot drinks proscribed; 10–17, Herbs, fruits, flesh, and grain are ordained for the use of man and of animals; 18–21, Obedience to gospel law, including the Word of Wisdom, brings temporal and spiritual blessings.

1 A aWord OF Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion—
2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the aword of wisdom, showing forth the order and bwill of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days—
3 Given for a principle with apromise, adapted to the capacity of the bweak and the weakest of all csaints, who are or can be called saints.
4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of aevils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of bconspiring men in the last days, I have cwarned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—
5 That inasmuch as any man adrinketh bwine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, apure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
7 And, again, astrong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.
8 And again, tobacco is not for the abody, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.
9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.
10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome aherbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—
11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with aprudence and bthanksgiving.
  12 Yea, aflesh also of bbeasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used csparingly;
13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be aused, only in times of winter, or of cold, or bfamine.
  14 All agrain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth;
15 And athese hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger.
16 All grain is good for the afood of man; as also the bfruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground—
17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.
  18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, ashall receive bhealth in their navel and marrow to their bones;
  19 And shall afind bwisdom and great ctreasures of dknowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall arun and not be bweary, and shall walk and not faint.
21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the adestroying angel shall bpass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.

We are studying the New Testament and I teach about the very same Jesus in the very same bible.

I know your heart aches for not being able to live the commandments. I know its hard and takes discipline.

Keep studying; and perhaps you'll get up to THIS part:

Galatians 3

Faith or Works of the Law
1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? 4 Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Add in there the "attitude of superiority" which is plainly illustrated by benhoganfan..."

MORMON
ATTITUDES OF SUPERIORITY

  1. I’m Superior; I have a special gift of the holy Ghost -- you don’t!
  2. I’m Superior; I have God’s true priesthood power -- you don’t!
  3. I’m Superior; I can go in God’s secret Temple -- you can’t!
  4. I’m Superior; I’ve been Endowed with special Gifts and Knowledge -- you’re just normal!
  5. I’m Superior; I’ll have my family with me in heaven -- you’ll be with strangers!
  6. I’m Superior; I’m becoming a God -- you aren’t!
  7. I’m Superior; My women know their place as servants of man and yours don’t.
  8. I’m Superior; YOUR creeds are wrong because they come from man - mine comes from God (you can find each one printed in our Scriptures).
  9. I’m Superior; I don’t HAVE a creed - I’ve got 13 Articles of Faith.
10. I'm Superior; I have 4 "Bibles"-- the standard works (5 if you count the JST) -- you've only got one: in as far as it is translated correctly.
11. I’m Superior; I can lie with impunity about such things as church membership, church growth, church doctrine, church history, church influence, etc. —                           -- You can’t.
12. I’m Superior; I am right (everybody knows) when I say 'evangelical' Christians are lunatics --
-- You’re a hideous narrow-minded bigot, who is persecuting me by practicing discrimination by saying I'm not a Christian.
13. I'm Superior; I have a testimony about a prophet -- you don't.
14. I'm Superior; I have a Scripture-producing Amos 3:7 prophet -- you don't
15. I’m Superior; I have a Living Prophet who talks to god every day -- you have a dim-witted hireling of Satan who only talks to himself.
16. I'm Superior; I have my calling & election made sure -- you don't.
17. I’m Superior; I have magic underwear to protect me from the bogey man -- you don’t.
18. I’m Superior; I have secret clasps and grips to give the angel so I get admitted to the celestial kingdom -- you don’t ;so you can’t.
19. I'm Superior; I know secret handshake codes for afterlife entrances-- you don't.
20. I’m Superior; I will see Joseph Smith setting on the right hand of GOD, when I get to Mormon heaven, and he will recognize me and judge me favorably                              -- You’re on your own; when you get to wherever you’re going!
21. I’m Superior; I’m going to hie to Kolob -- you’re going to who knows where.
22. I’m Superior; I get to have a harem and act like a celestial stud for time and all eternity -- you don’t.
23. I’m Superior; I have sun stones, moon stones, sky stones, cloud stones, Saturn stones, and the evil eye of Osirus guarding my temple
-- You have nothing but a stupid cross.
24. I’m Superior; My church has billions in assets stashed away -- yours has taken a stupid vow of poverty.
25. I'm Superior; Last - we have the power to keep a whole race out of our priesthood if we wanted to reinsert our 148-year legacy  (we ARE still keeping an entire GENDER at bay!)
26.  I'm superior; I have the "higher law" -- everyone else "lives under the "lesser law' because I say so...(over and over).

Take note of the typical Mormon attitude of superiority intimating that ‘antis’ don’t work or have ‘real jobs’.

They seem to think they are the ONLY ones who work or work hard, partly because their cult tells them that.

More brainwashing at work.

I am a Mormon, a full tithe paying Mormon...

Do you realize, ben, that while some Mormon leaders appeal to tithing as an ancient practice, that one of your "prophets" said
-- at the 1900 General Conference of all places --
that the reason why the Lord imposed "The Law of Tithing" on the Mormon people was...
...because they were imperfect at fulfilling a greater law -- "The Law of Consecration."
[This was enfolded under the United Order "revelations" of Joseph Smith...yet because the Utah Mormons failed this order by the late 1880s into the 1890s, "The Law of Tithing" has since become the #1 emphasized law @ Lds.org!]

If you don't want to take my word for it, just read the following:

1949: Doctrine and Covenants Studies, by Bryant S. Hinckley

Chapter 42: THE LAW OF TITHING (Section 119)

Why Instituted

We know of no better statement as to why the Lord revealed the law of tithing than that made by President Joseph F. Smith at the general conference of the Church in April, 1900. “Why the Law of Tithing Was Instituted – The Lord revealed to his people in the incipiency of his work a law which was more perfect than the law of tithing. It comprehended larger things, greater power, and a more speedy accomplishment of the purposes of the Lord. But the people were unprepared to live by it, and the Lord, out of mercy to the people, suspended the more perfect law [the law of consecration and stewardship], and gave the law of tithing, in order that there might be means in the storehouse of the Lord for the carrying out of the purposes he had in view...; (GD, p. 282.)

Secondary Sources: Bryant S. Hinckley, 1949, citing Joseph F. Smith, Gospel Doctrine, p. 282. Doctrine and Covenants Studies

Therefore, of all the laws a Mormon might boast about as fulfilling, this one -- although emphasized the most by Lds, Inc. on its Web site -- is actually the least to be proud of!

Why? Because your "prophet," Joseph F. Smith said in 1900 that this was a sort of "second-best" law that the Lord gave in relenting to the reality that Mormons just couldn't quite get that 100% consecrated socialism-communism law down pat...that law called, "The Law of Consecration" -- otherwise known as the United Order!

The Law of Tithing itself, by your own "prophet's" concession, was geared toward realizing how IMperfect Mormons were in following Joseph Smith's revelations!!!

But, hey, since at one time almost 80% of Smith's revelations were fiscally related, I'm sure the Mormon people got tired of hearing Smith preach and preach about his fave topic -- $!

Your comment is interesting, even though I do disagree about her connecting ‘cult’ with culture.

There are three definitions of ‘cult’ and Mormonism fits all three. She is right that there is a huge culture of Mormonism that permeates EVERY PART OF LIFE, but that is a different subject.

What your comment did do, however, is remind me how hard it is to leave Mormonism, because the person leaving has to relearn everything (how to read the Bible, basic theological terms, basic theology), in addition to leaving the culture and often being ostraciszed by LDS friends and family (including divorce).

Coming out of Mormonism can be (and often is) very traumatic and sadly Christian pastors are often ill equipped to handle the issues. Your comments have inspired me to get back to work on a discipleship manual for those leaving the LDS and a guidebook for pastors on how to help those who are transitioning out of Mormonism and into Christianity.

“...how hard it is to leave Mormonism...”

Just as a point of reference, all of her family is Morman but they still keep in touch to a degree. A brother is one of the big shots in SLC. She left 30+ years ago during college and married a Christian (who is now studying to be a preacher). They are both active and involved in the church. And with all of that it STILL struck a nerve hearing her old faith called a cult!

Good luck on your efforts in helping Christians minister to those who have left Mormonism.
