The Rev. Roy Bourgeois, who refused to renounce his increasingly public campaign to see women ordained as priests in the Roman Catholic Church, has been notified of his dismissal by his religious order, the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers.
A letter to Father Bourgeois, signed by the superior general and the general secretary of the Maryknoll order in the United States, said the dismissal was necessary because of his defiant stance in opposition to church teaching.
Your numerous public statements and appearances in support of the womens priests movement continues to create in the minds of many faithful the view that your position is acceptable to our Church, the letter said, adding that Father Bourgeois had caused the church grave scandal.

I thought only Bishops could ordain, anyway. Sheesh, what a dilettante.
Now let them do something about the 200 priests that signed a letter supporting him.
Apparently he has forgotten his vow of obedience
More than 200 priests signed a petition to the Maryknolls saying that they supported his right to follow his conscience.
This is a matter of doctrine and church law. His conscience does not come in to play. If his conscience is so strong on the matter he must request to be relieved of his vows and stop being a priest.
Only then can he agitate for the reforms he believes are necessary.
He was back in December of 2008.
Fr. Roy Bourgeois has been excommunicated [Ecumenical]
The formal dismissal should have preceded the ferendae sententiae excommunication.
That is appalling. The only reason I can imagine for the delay is fear of litigation, a distinct possibility with a heretic.
whose priests?
outsiders? the same denomination? back of rolling stone magazine degree priests?
“Now let them do something about the 200 priests that signed a letter supporting him.”
Oh, that’s a point - they might be ‘womenpriests’ or something equally invalid.
Thanks
That was my understanding. Why wasnt he dismissed from the order prior to excommunication?
They may have been giving him the opportunity to recant and be rehabilitated.
