The Rev. Janet Edwards said, "The Heidelberg Catechism is one of the defining documents of Reformed traditions and must be translated correctly. Any mistranslation undermines the integrity of the document and raises questions among those standing at the margins who wonder if they are included in the love of Christ."

Curious that she should mention that.

Kevin DeYoung in his recent book on the Heidelberg (The Good News We Almost Forgot. Highly recommended.) discusses this.

From memory, because I don't have it in front of me: the PCUSA guys who translated it for the them didn't translate well. The explicit reference to homosexuality isn't there. That translator recognized it as an implicit reference to one of the places in the NT where homosexuality is condemned. Zacharias Ursinus & Co. would certainly have understood it so. The their translator made explicit what the Ursinus & Co. left implicit.

The Heidelberg Catechism is (sort of) part of the confessional underpinnings of the PCUSA (but in a way that's deliberately undermining of that structure). A year or three back, the PCUSA altered their own, idiosyncratic, translation to remove an explicit reference to homosexuality. A reference that wasn't there to begin with.

In other words, there's no aid for the homo-affirming from that particular quarter.

Nah, they’ll re-write whatever can support the gay agenda. however the problem is that the gay-agenda will lead to the demise of the PCUSA. I’m not just saying that as a Christian, but if you look at how the gay-friendly groups have fared, they just drop off in numbers from people disgusted by the gay stuff and they don’t get their desired gay clientele
