Obama Administration Opposes Adding FDR Prayer To War Memorial

The Obama administration is opposing legislation that would add President Franklin Roosevelt's D-Day prayer to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

At a House hearing Thursday, Robert Abbey, director of the Bureau of Land Management, said a plaque or inscription of the prayer that Roosevelt read on a radio broadcast to the nation on June 6, 1944, would "dilute" the memorial's central message....

I imagine Barry is afraid we’ll “offend” certain people again after we already “offended” them when we kicked their asses in WWII. Maybe he and his commie ‘RATs will suggest that we replace the prayer with an apology.

I’m sure most Japanese, Italians or Germans couldn’t care less what we put on our war memorials. They have statues and markers for the SS, fascists, Tojo and Kamikazes and we don’t interfere in their culture.

Who in hell put the head of the Bureau of Land Management in charge of this? Didn’t anyone have the sense to ask him if it was his own decision, or if he was taking orders from someone else?

It makes no mention of Jesus or anything that would indicate Christian, or God of Abraham, or anything like that.

Maybe he is a question mark Unitarian after all?

The prayer is a bit long (over 6 minutes). Good sentiment though not up to Churchill.

I guess FDR isn't such a hero when he exposes his faith in prayer to God; presumably he's referring to the Jehovah God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, but I don't know if that was FDR's actual belief.

But the point is Barry will have none of it. That way he can usher in sharia much easier.

But what amazes me is this talk about going against the “central message.” The liberation of Europe from Nazism was his greatest achievement.

It is longer than anyone would read at a memorial, maybe excerpt This part:

“Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.”

Just enough to piss off Athiests, Muslims and Communists.

Well, the Second Inaugural is one of the prayers carved on the walls of the Lincoln Memorial. But I take your point. What amazed me is the stupidly of the director’s comments. He is blinded by his own ambition.

So what is this central message that's threatened with dilution?

Is it centralized government, rather than God, is the supreme power?

If the full prayer is too long, the excerpts posted in this thread seem workable.

My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far.

And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.

They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.

If he was just a socialist idiot, I would expect him to ok the prayer, since it was from THE Franklin D. Roosevelt.
