Vanity: Beware of False Prophets, False Prophecy
Excerpts from http://bible.cc/matthew/7-15.htm ^

Posted on 12/24/2011 1:00:53 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Excerpts:

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Kings 13:18 The old prophet answered, "I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the LORD: 'Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.'" (But he was lying to him.)

Jeremiah 23:16 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.

Ezekiel 22:27 Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.

Daniel 11:34 When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them.

Matthew 7:14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 24:11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Matthew 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible.

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible.

Luke 6:26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

John 10:12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.

Acts 13:6 They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,

Acts 20:29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.

Romans 16:17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Revelation 16:13 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Revelation 19:20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

There are many fine Mormons, Catholics, Jehovah Witnesses and whatnot.

"One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!"

Speaking of false prophets....

At least Jed here doesn’t make his threads ‘caucus’.

Sorry dear you need a LOT more knowledge of Christian theology. I actually do feel sorry for you.

And I can run circles around you, I’ve proven that for years on here.

But I’m here to educate you anytime. Feel free to ask.

Typical, call someone a ‘hater’ yet never point out the hate. Call names, avoid questions, then leave. Yep, you grew up Mormon all right.

I was blind (Mormon) but God opened my eyes and I got the Hell out of Mormonism.

I will pray for you though, Jesus loves you and suffered and died on the Cross to pay for your sins. All of them.

“First of all Joseph Smith volunteered to report to the jail and than an anti mob started forming there was no justice to take place”

WRONG!

First of all hot dog smith was trying to take the wives of other men
Second, he destroyed the private property of others

The townspeople who were sinned against in these ways wanted justice.

You left out all of joe smiths sins that led to his death.

Again, typical. Lie about the comments hoping to get support. My post above was a response to your calling me a hater and blind, not your wishing me a Merry Christmas.

Anyway, why would you care if I wished you a Merry Christmas? You’ve make your beliefs clear and Christ isn’t part of it.

I don’t wish my Jewish friends Merry Christmas...and I’m not into the wishing people Merry Christmas just because it is socially acceptable. I don’t say “Happy Holidays” either.

**there was no “roman” church and no “greek” church,***

Let me rephrase that. Latin speaking church and Greek speaking church.

The CHURCH was not homogeneous on what was the canon of Scripture.

According to THE FORMATION OF THE CHRISTIAN BIBLE CANON by Lee McDonald, the only accepted books without question were the four Gospels, Acts, Paul's letters (except Hebrews) 1 Peter, 1 John and were accepted without council decisions.

“It might be said that this collection of twenty NT writings was widely recognized from the ‘grass roots’ of the church, but that later the remaining seven were determined largely by the hierarchy of the church through council decisions. Only these last seven continued to be questioned in the churches after Eusebius......”

Athanasius accepted both Hebrews and Revelation, but Cyril of Jerusalem and Gregory of Nazianzus did not accept Revelation as did not several other Eastern Church leaders.

In my personal hand written notes I mention that “ 340 AD, Athanasius convinces Rome to accept Hebrews.” I did not place a page note as I should have.

The author also shows some of the other accepted books in
Ethiopia, the Eastern Churches and how even the Roman Church never achieved unity on what the canon was until Trent.

The only books of our modern NT that still are distrusted by some are Hebrews (A very well written and logical book, one of my favorites) James, 2 Peter, 2&3 John, Jude and Revelation. And even if we allowed the spurious books in, they would STILL prove the Mormons to be without foundation!

Very interesting. Why was Hebrews not trusted? And what about the book on Enoch? Why was that taken out?

***Why was Hebrews not trusted? And what about the book on Enoch? Why was that taken out?***

Hebrews- Uncertain authorship although it is attributed to St Paul.

Never knew Enoch was ever in, just another untrustworthy book. Simply because Jude quoted it does not make it gospel. St Paul quoted several pagan authors and no one considers their works biblical.

How do you get any more blessed by SLC than that?

Well...

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

My guess is she didn't even read her own church's website and History, because she has her testimony and desire to protect the church from any unflattering piece of history.

Bah!

We HAVE no 'unflattering history' until you Hateful BIGOTs get hold of it and post it for all to see!

There's never any follow-up, no matter that you prove your point solely from LDS-authorized materials.

Flip!

So they are AUTHORIZED; eh?

Even after you post a LOT of it; it is STILL considered 'out of context' because our precious words were not uttered in one of our own, CLEANSED Temples or such!
