Many of us who are biblical scholars have watched Mr. Obamas use, or should I say abuse, of the Bible with dismay.
Who can forget when he gave a speech mocking the ceremonial law of the Old Testament then saying something to the effect of, How can you govern by the Sermon on the Mount?
Well, he did it again at the National Prayer Breakfast. I never understood that name since very little prayer, if any, takes place. Instead, perhaps it should be called the National Breakfast Gathering.
The president quoted the Bible to justify punishing those who have worked hard, and most of whom are very generous givers, in order to take their money and give it to many of his constituencies who are always standing outside the doors of the White House with out-stretched hands.
Mr. Obama, in justifying his misguided policy, quoted Jesus in Luke 12:48: From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
No, you do not have to have a seminary degree to know that Jesus is talking about individual stewardship in an individuals relationship with God.
For it is God who gives each person different portions of gifts, talents, and treasure to manage according to His sovereign will. It is God who entrusts people with what they have, not the government.
God is the One who will judge the faithfulness of each individuals stewardship and blessing, or lack thereof. In Luke 12:48, Jesus, God the Son, is exhorting individuals to be faithful and give generously without regret.
Understanding this, one has to wonder if Mr. Obama has replaced God with his administration. He must believe that when he says much is given, he refers to what is given by the government, and much is demanded, as that which is demanded by the government. This is 180° opposite to the truth.
This is a very dangerous precedent. We have had egotistical presidents before, from both political spectrums, but never to my knowledge have we had one who saw himself as replacing God, or one who views his administration as acting on Gods behalf or instead of God.
Misquoting the Scripture is a common practice by some politicians to advance their cause, but this abuse of the Scripture and viewing ones administration as the judge and executioner, not for crimes, but for personal stewardship, has reached a new low in egotism.
Mr. Obama needs to issue an immediate and urgent apology for his misuse and mangling of the Scripture.
I doubt that obama ever read the Bible. He certainly doesn’t understand any of it.
God helps those who help themselves. Get out and vote on election day.
The Bible would burn in his hands if he held it.
I am new to this site, how long does it take to see my post?
I wonder if he ever read the Bible as a member of Jeremiah Wright's church, or just came for the white-man-is-the-devil sermons.
Have you considered a donation to the FReepathon?
about 8 seconds.
I will consider donating when my bank account recovers, you see, I have only been working since 25 October 2011, and was unemployed 15 mos. prior, so your site, along with my creditors, will have to be patient; not to mention the country club I work for is in it’s slow season, and I mean slow. Talk to me in August perhaps.
It was a friendly jest, welcome.
I think a large Christian group should stand up and agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Obama.
His complaint is that the federal tax rate should be 30%, not 15% for “rich” people? Because the poor need it? Because Jesus said so?
Well, ok, then. Mandate that that extra 15% donation go directly to a Christian charity, send the receipt to the IRS.
Don’t you remember? Maobama “never heard those sermons” per the 2008 media spin.
First he would sneak in a Rubik’s cube to while away the time during the services, but he got to be so good at solving that that it became boring, so he would work 16-character Sudoku puzzles instead....never listened to a word the preacher was saying. He is so brilliant that no one else really appreciates him.
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-15
It is interesting that in that one paragraph of Revelation 20:11-15 lies the entire synopsis of human destiny, from beginning, to end.
All of our failures, all of our "accomplishments", all of our hopes, loves, dreams, and also, our terrible sins against a Holy and all powerful God.
As Christ told us; the door is open to grace, but few take it. The path Hell is wide, and most take that way.
Animals in zoos have "keepers". Evidently that's what he thinks Americans are, zoo animals -- and he's the zookeeper. Animals are lower than slaves, therefore he has a way to go before he even gets to the point of viewing himself as the slavemaster and us as his slaves.
(This American, FWIW, thinks Obama is the chief crazy in the Washington loony bin.)
