Your Prayer for the Departed
04-01-12 | self

Almighty Eternal God, in Your fatherly goodness, be kind to the soul of Your servant, ____. Cleanse him whom You have called from this world of all his faults, take him into the Realm of Light and Peace and into the Community of Your Saints, and give him his share of Eternal Delight in Your Kingdom. God, Creator and Saviour of all the faithful, forgive all the sins of all Your servants' souls. Let them receive forgiveness through our pious prayer, for which they have always been yearning. For this we pray through Jesus, Our Lord. Amen.

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Remembered Joy

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all...
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

Nobody says it (no matter WHAT it is!) like the Irish. :)

THE LIGHTS OF HOME
(Fanny Crosby, 1899)

O the friends that now are waiting,
In the cloudless realms of day,
Who are calling me to follow
Where their steps have led the way;
They have laid aside their armor,
And their earthly course is run;
They have kept the faith with patience
And their crown of life is won.

They have laid aside their armor
For the robe of spotless white;
And with Jesus they are walking
Where the river sparkles bright.
We have labored here together,
We have labored side by side,
Just a little while before me
They have crossed the rolling tide.

On those dear familiar faces
There will be no trace of care;
Every sigh was hushed forever
At the palace gate so fair.
I shall see them, I shall know them,
I shall hear their song of love,
And we’ll all sing hallelujah
In our Father’s house above.

They are calling, gently calling,
Sweetly calling me to come,
And I’m looking through the shadows
For the blessèd lights of home.

My oldest daughter died three years ago today. I have thought about how and if I should even pray for her now. I do pray that somehow the Lord spoke to her and she reconciled to him in her last days before her sudden and unexpected death. I think she knew Jesus as a child but she left her faith. In her last few years I felt she was searching for the rock of her life again and having a little boy softened her heart. Still I don’t know the state of her soul and I mourn for the possibility she may not have died in Christ. For that there is no prayer.
