It was this website that helped me greatly circa 1998.

There also is a book about the scientific research.

Key to proving the validity of the Shroud are these two incredible facts

(1) Two NASA scientists did research that proved that the image of the SHROUD was made by an unknown energy (energy of the resurrection?)

(2) Pollen on the Shroud was from a plant that grew in Palestine 2000 years ago

Correction from previous post - two JPL scientists used the VP8 image analyzer to analyze the shroud.

However, they came upon unexpected results. Normally, the VP8 produces a 2-D image. In the case of the Shroud, it produced a 3-D image.

I read about this about 15 years ago...

topher, I don't know if you got a chance to watch the rerun of that interview with that guy on EWTN (link above) or not yet, but it was really interesting.

He was the official photographer on the early scientific investigating team, and he is Jewish, so he is not trying to push Christianity, but he provided a lot of support for the authenticity of the shroud.

The photos he supplied were used by someone else to make a painting based on those photos to give an idea what Jesus may have looked like, and they showed that picture on the EWTN show.

In the second half of that EWTN show, Schwortz fielded a bunch of unusual questions from the audience (such as, "Does the shroud show how tall Jesus was?", "Does the 'negative-like-effect' on shroud indicate Jesus had white hair?", questions about the DNA found on the shroud, etc., and I found his answers to be remarkably thoughtful, plausible, and fascinating.

If you haven't seen it yet, I'd really recommend you take a look at it if you get a chance.    It should still be available out there on that "EWTN Live" link.    (The whole show is just one hour long.)
