[Former UK Attorney General] Dominic Grieve: 'British Christians Forced to Hide Belief’

Interview: the former attorney general says he fears that 'aggressive' secularism is pushing the Christian 'faith out of the public space'

Britain is at risk of being “sanitised” of faith because an “aggressive form of secularism” in workplaces and public bodies is forcing Christians to hide their beliefs, a former attorney general has warned.

Dominic Grieve said he found it “quite extraordinary” that people were being sacked or disciplined for expressing their beliefs at work.

He described Christianity as a “powerful force for good” in modern Britain and warned that Christians should not be “intimidated” and “excluded” for their beliefs.

He said that politicians and public figures should not be afraid of “doing God” and that they have a duty to explain how their beliefs inform their decisions.

The “appalling” scenes in Iraq, which have seen Islamic extremists behead and crucify religious minorities including Christians, showed that it was “more important than ever” for people to express their religious beliefs, he said.

He told The Telegraph: “I worry that there are attempts to push faith out of the public space. Clearly it happens at a level of local power.

“Religion in the United Kingdom and in the countries that preceded it has been dominated, for over 1,400 years, by various forms of Christianity. According to the national census, a majority of citizens identify as Christians, although regular church attendance has fallen dramatically since the middle of the twentieth century, and immigration and demographic change have contributed to the growth of other faiths.

Religious affiliations of United Kingdom citizens are recorded by regular surveys, the four major ones being the UK Census, the Labour Force Survey, the British Social Attitudes survey and the European Social Survey. According to the 2011 UK census, Christianity is the major religion, followed by Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism in terms of number of adherents. This, and the relatively large number of individuals with nominal or no religious affiliations, has led commentators to variously describe the United Kingdom as a multi-faith, secularised, or post-Christian society.”

So very depressing. It’s happening all over this country as well. Militant secularism is working hand in glove with islam.

I’m under no obligation to hide my faith.

That others are “offended” is their problem, not mine.

Britain may not have the “free exercise” clause, but neither should they move in the direction of the Nazi’s who didn’t mind as long as nobody had to see it.

Americans need to be more forceful in defending their “free exercise” rights.

I’m offend by militant atheism and forced secularization. I want those beliefs forced out of schools, government, and public life.I’m for court ordered separation of atheism and state.
It’s amazing that the progressive movement is so afraid of Jesus! That tells you all you need to about them.

Good news, at least with Americans, we will not be messed around with, thanks to Amendment number 2.

Just take comfort in the fact that the Muslims will behead the secularists all the same. They don’t discriminate

Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty

O God our Creator,
from your provident hand we have received
our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You have called us as your people and given us
the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God,
and your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel
to every corner of society.

We ask you to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome—
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us—
this great land will always be "one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Another thing is that we all need to be praying our Rosary every day for our country.

I finally read the complete article and was bombarded with so many pop ups from The Telegraph asking me to look at nude photos of someone that I actually got off the page. What’s going on with all these newspapers? They are making themselves virtually unreadable! And as far as really good sites like The Daily Caller here in the USA, I can no longer use it because of relentless pop ups.

I’m sorry, Sal, for commenting on this after your Rosary post. I just wanted to vent my frustration in the last post.

No problem. My virus control seems to take care of the pop-ups.
