Regardless, I see no reason to be ashamed of what anyone wholly unconnected with me did hundreds of years ago.

With that said, you make the logical fallacy of assuming the Inquisition was the result of human wrath and anger. There was a serious problem at the time (Islamic subversion, confusion, doctrinal conflict) and the Inqusition sought to address it, using methods used by all people back in the day which don't jibe with delicate modern sensitivities.

I find it strange that Protestants and the hand-wringing left are so quick put aside their differences and join forces when it comes to the Inquisition.
