Purgatory does not deny true efficacy of the cross. Your comment begs the question, what did Christ means by it is finished ? His mission,of course, which is the salvation of the world. But the world continues, and the work of the devil continues. For which the minions of the devil reproach us, by pointing out the ways we fall short but also that Christ has not come again. Yet we die, one by one, and it is only by dying that we see the course of our life, and how many of us see a perfect trust in Him?
It’s a fact that Christians sin, Paul said so. Paul also said that to be absent from the body is to be with Christ. There is no mention of an intermediate stop for ‘cleansing’. We owe nothing for those sins be cause Christ paid the debt in full for past, present, and future sins. The concept of purgatory denies to fullness of God’s forgiveness.
Was anyone (beside the thief) saved when Christ was crucified ?
Sure it denies the efficacy of the cross.
If there is sin left to be purged form the individual that Christ’s blood didn’t take care of, His blood didn’t finish the job, it wasn’t enough.
Either Jesus’ blood cleanses us or it doesn’t. God doesn’t do half a job.
