Yes, I agree that a lot of people miss the implications of Luke 9:39-31. It indicates that the meeting on the Mount of Transfiguration was a planning conference, and that what Jesus did during his last week in Jerusalem was part of the plan for his departure.

The Greek word translated in Luke 9:31 as "departure" is exodos, from where we get the word "Exodus" (ἔξοδος). Implied is, that from this point on as he makes his way to Jerusalem, Jesus will be re-capitulating the testing journey of Moses and the Israelites to the promised land.
