Never a third God?

Does anyone claim there are three gods?

Christians believe in ONE God.

Acts 5:4 declares the Holy Spirit to be God.

Do you believe in One God or two?

“....but it is all still water.”

My chemistry is poor, but there is also the “triple point” of substances - where at one certain pressure and temperature, all three states exist at once.

“Oh - so God is like an ice cube?”

I think some things are worth really trying to figure out (hence my feeble attempt at the “triple point” thing which I figured out back in college - and others are worth more embracing the mystery and wonder of it. Like the Trinity.

And Bigfoot.

**The New Testament is more explicit about God’s triune nature. After Jesus’ baptism, the Spirit of God descended upon Him as a dove, and the Father said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased” (Matt. 3:17). The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are together in the same scene.**

reed13k, the unspiritual understanding of men have given the world the confusion of ‘three co-equal, separate and distinct persons in the Godhead’. Consider the following:

Well, first of all, the man standing in the river is the Son of God, not God the Son. Neither Jesus Christ, nor his apostles, EVER used the phrase ‘God the Son’.

Secondly, why is it so hard to believe that God the Father could both speak AND give John a visual sign at the SAME time. We are talking about the ONE who has power to do anything! A TV is an physical object, but plug it in (the power), and there is visual and audio enhancements. I’m also sure electricity is REALLY important in making a TV set.

Better yet, compare man’s interpretation (like MacArthur’s) to the EXPERT,.....Jesus Christ. (Whose words I used several times below, in a short discussion I just sent off to anther FReeper on the previous thread of this series.)......

Jesus Christ said that all power was given to him. By who pray tell?

Jesus Christ said that all the words and works, that he said or performed, were from the Father.

Is the Father omnipresent? Jesus Christ declared that God the Father is a Spirit (Jn 4:23,24).
Is the Father found in the Son? If not, then the Father is not omnipresent.

Consider the Son’s prayer to the Father in John 17:1-3:

1. “Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee.” (see how the Son NEEDS the Father to glorify him so that he can glorify the Father.)

2. “As thou hast GIVEN him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as many as thou hast given him.” (the Father gave him this power, not vice versa. And the power is the gift of the Holy Ghost.)

3. “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the ONLY TRUE GOD, AND Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

Sent from where?
The soul of the Son was sent from the spiritual realm of God the Father, into the physical realm of God’s creation.

“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:” Heb. 10:5

In the trinitarian view, that has the Son as the creator of all things, who made the Son’s body?

Take a look at the Ark of the Covenant:

The focal point of worship was the invisible God that dwelt between the cherubims. God’s wisdom showed in that instruction, by making sure that the people wouldn’t worship the works of men’s hands. But symbolism of the Ark’s two main ingredients (wood, overlaid with gold inside AND outside) was shown in Jesus own words in John 14:10,11:

“Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.”

Remember what was put in the Ark? God put his words (the tablets of stone) in his Son.

“For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.’ Jn 12:49,50.

Also, the golden bowl of manna was preserved even before God commanded Moses to build the Ark. (Ex. 16:32-34) Yes, that’s proof that God’s bread of life was to be placed in his Son:

And so, Jesus Christ baptizes with the Holy Ghost. He had to go away so that the Holy Ghost could be given. That’s why the Ark had to disappear from view. The Son was going to disappear from view (ascend to heaven). Just as the Jews are going to bring an ark back into view, so also is the Lord Jesus Christ going to return to view when he comes again!

As Aaron’s rod that budded, blossomed, and brought forth almonds, was placed in the Ark, so also the resurrection power was placed in Jesus Christ:

“For as the father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself.” Jn 5:26

“Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it up again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.” Jn 10 17:18

“...Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father,...”. Rms 6:4

The worldly entertainment industry is powered by the ‘prince of this world’. A favorite theme of it is people possessed by an evil spirit. They have a mind of their own, but to varying degrees, are shown to let the evil power use their body to do evil deeds. The subjects are often shown dying in that horrible condition of possession.

The Holy Ghost baptism is the power of God to empower people to be used of God for only good, and after death, raise them from the dead when the trump of God sounds.

The Son of God (man with a soul) was and is possessed with the power of God (the Father), and has expressed the will of the invisible God to all that will hear his voice.

Does that last comment sound familiar?.............

“The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good.....the Jews...slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up.....he rose from the dead. And commanded us to preach unto the people......remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all that heard the word.’ Acts 10:36-44 (abbreviated to simply get the main point across. Also read Peter’s initial testimony; Acts 2:14-40)

Wanna know how Jesus Christ is Lord of all? I think it is because the omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient Father is in him, and he in him.

Course I also don’t understand 3 days/nights to rise if he died on friday as the sabbath approached and rose on Sunday there are only 2 nights between - not 3. Which makes me think he really rose on Monday....

Actually it was Saturday...This site covers it pretty well but others go well into all the detail with scripture of course so a person can see when the Crucifixion actually took place...

I struggle with understanding the Trinity - but then that shouldn’t be suprising who can truly understand the magneficeince of God.

God gave us the scriptures so that we could understand...I like to think I understand the Trinity...Others of course disagree with me as well as each other but many do agree with me...

God says we are made in his image...In what sense would that be??? We look like God??? Nope...God is invisible...He is a spirit...How about Jesus??? We made in Jesus' image??? Nope...John says we don't know what the risen Jesus looks like...In the scriptures Jesus appears as a ram, a lamb, an angel, a man...

And then God says, 'let us make man in our image'...Fascinating stuff...

The one thing we have in common with God is that there are 3 of us...We are created with a body, a soul and the life giving spirit...All wrapped up into one package...And that package is the 'image of God'...God is 3...Just like you are 3...But God is one...If you look in a mirror, you see 1...But yet you are 3...

Some liken us to a bicycle tire...We have the tire itself (our body)...Then there's the inner tube (the soul) and it is filled with air (the spirit) to make one tire...

The word used for body is soma, which means body...The word used for soul is psuche which we get our word psyche from...Our reasoning center...And spirit is the word pneuma...We get our word pneumatic from that...AIR...Spirit is air...

God puts the air into us...Into our lungs...If you believe that, and I believe that, (That air is the pneuma, the spirit) then if you have ever seen a baby being born you have witnessed the supernatural miracle that only God can provide by putting the spirit into that little body...if you have ever seen a baby being born in person or on tv, you have witnessed the supernatural miracle from God...

Anyway, Our trinity gets separated at death; the spirit leaves the body and the body falls down to the ground and the soul leaves and goes up, or down...

This is a picture of God...He is one but he is 3...But because he is a spiritual being the 3 parts of the Trinity have the ability to separate...

If your soul was able to leave your body right now without your body falling down dead, your soul would also have an identity...Your body would be you, your soul would be you and your spirit would be you...And that's a picture of God (Jesus and the Holy Spirit)...

The trinity doctrine as we understood it today was not understood as such in biblical times. It was not understood as such by Paul. It was not understood as such by Peter. It was not understood as such by Jesus Christ. The doctrine of the trinity as we understand it today is an evolved doctrine and did not take its present form until over 300 years after the death of Christ.

1Th_5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If there's three of you there's three of Him...

Lol, your question betrays an utter ignorance of how Jews counted days. They didn’t count hours, any part of a day counted as one day.

So them Jews were pretty dumb, eh???

So a Jewish man is on vacation at the lake...One minute before the day is over he throws a hook and a worm in the water...In a sudden change of mind, he pulls the hook out of the water one minute after the new day starts...

The day after the Jew heads into the local pub and runs into some friends...They ask what he's been up to...And he replies, 'I spent the last two days fishing and never got a bite'...

You know what??? I don't believe your story...

And you know what else??? God doesn't believe you either...

Act_2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day...

Act_23:23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

Well at least they had third hours anyway...

Praise God Almighty...Them Jews had nights too...

Mat_20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.

Oh man look at that...Those Jews didn't have just the third hour, they had other hours too...I wonder how many hours they had in a day (and night)...

Why do you think anyone should believe your fake theology??? Is it because your 'sacred tradition' says it's true and you buy into it???

History shows Christians worshippers on the first day of the week from the beginning, the Lord’s Day.

You mean the fake Catholic history??? The BIBLE shows Christian worshipers worshiping every day of the week...

Anyone following the Apostolic Tradition as the Scriptures command us would know this.

Oh yah, that high and mighty tradition that tells you Jews had no concept of time...

Lol, utter ignorance of inclusive reckoning.

If a baby was born one minute before sundown and dies one minute after sun down, the Jews say the baby lived for two days.

Ask any rabbi, you might learn something.

Neither Jesus Christ, nor his apostles, EVER used the phrase ‘God the Son’.

Likewise; the phrase Mother of GOD is not found in Scripture.

The Gregorian calendar that pope Gregory dreamed up is wrong and that’s the source of the confusion about the three days and three nights thing.

He arbitrarily assigned the days that HE thought Jesus died and rose again and it has brought confusion to the issue and given atheists ammunition to lob against Christians to try to show inconsistencies in the Christian faith.

Days of the Jewish Week

Other than Shabbat, the name of the seventh day of the week, the Jewish calendar doesn't have names for the days of the week.

The days of the week are simply known as first day, second day, third day, etc.

Sometimes they are referred to more fully as First Day of the Sabbath, etc.

Below is a list for those who are interested.

Hebrew Transliteration English
Yom Rishon (Hebrew) Yom Rishon First Day (Sunday)
Yom Sheini (Hebrew) Yom Sheini Second Day (Monday)
Yom Shlishi (Hebrew) Yom Shlishi Third Day (Tuesday)
Yom R'vi'i (Hebrew) Yom R'vi'i Fourth Day (Wednesday)
Yom Chamishi (Hebrew) Yom Chamishi Fifth Day (Thursday)
Yom Shishi (Hebrew) Yom Shishi Sixth Day (Friday)
Yom Shabbat (Hebrew) Yom Shabbat Sabbath Day (Saturday)

He arbitrarily assigned days.........

Making things up now?

After Gregory changed the calendar, the old Monday was still Monday.
The old 7th day was still the 7th day.

It is dopes who can’t understand the Bible that give ammunition to the atheists.

Jesus tells his true disciples they are to be one in John 17 and indeed we are.
Christians know what day their Savior died and what day he rose. We were there, we are the two witnesses.

If Ryan were Jewish, they would say he lived six days.

Need proof?

Jewish boys need to circumcised on the 8th day. Had Ryan been Jewish and lived, on what day would he need to be circumcised on?

I will save you embarrassment, the answer is October 18th.

Just like if October 11th was a Friday, October 13th would be the third day ( Sunday )

He wasn’t.
