A Baptist Church group in Brazil said it will consider supporting a growing push to legalize abortion for disabled babies in the South American country.
Joel Zeferino, president of the Alliance of Baptists of Brazil, said his church is open to the idea of allowing abortions for women with the Zika virus, according to Premier.
With the spread of the virus, some countries have noticed a huge increase in the number of babies born with microcephaly, a neurological disorder where a babyâs head is significantly smaller and the brain is abnormally developed, according to the Mayo Clinic. The condition is not typically fatal, but it can cause health problems throughout the babyâs life.
âBetween October 2015 and January this year medics in [Brazil] have registered almost 4,000 cases of microcephaly in newborns, compared to 163 in a normal year,â according to The Pool.
Because of a possible link between the Zika virus and microcephaly, some South American countries are advising women to avoid getting pregnant until the virus is under control. But abortion activists are targeting babies with disabilities instead, pushing women infected with Zika to abort even if they donât know if their baby has the disorder.
Zeferino said he wants there to be an open discussion about abortion in Brazil, which currently is illegal except in cases of rape and danger to the motherâs life.
âWe understand this is an issue that needs to be discussed with a society in a much more open and democratic manner,â Zeferino said. âWe need to include in this debate the women who suffer these abortions, the women who live on the outskirts of our cities, the black women, these are the ones who, in fact, resort to illegal abortions.â
However, other religious and pro-life groups have refused to even entertain the idea of targeting disabled babies for abortions because of the Zika outbreak. Last week, Catholic Church officials in South America said they will not back down from their position defending the unborn.
âNothing justifies an abortion,â said the Rev. Luciano Brito, spokesman for the Catholic Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in Brazil. âJust because a fetus has microcephaly wonât make us favorable [to abortion].â
The Anglican Church reportedly is undecided on the issue.
According to the latest report, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff met recently with members of the National Council of Christian Churches of Brazil to ask their pastors to spread awareness about Zika from the pulpit.
The World Health Organization also has declared the virus outbreak an international health emergency. No vaccine or cure has been developed yet.
ACTION: Contact the Alliance of Baptists of Brazil and tell them to protect unborn babies from abortion.
I support aborting anyone illegally coming across the border, whether they carry Zika or not.
I said from the beginning the Zika virus is a front for promoting abortion.
After all, who would deny that abortions need to be safe and legal for the poor mothers of children whose brains are not all formed and will be disabled for life?
Then it’s only one small step to killing babies after the birth process, say, within 72 hours or so, if the baby doesn’t meet the full expectations of the parents.
It’ either a child of God or it is not - if it is, then the decision is not ours, but His - no ifs, ands, or buts.
Just tell these Baptists that abortion can lead to dancing and card-playing, and they’ll get back in line.
There is no conclusive evidence that Zika virus causes birth defects. All there is is a coincidental discovery that some children born with microcephaly haven’t been previously counted, at the same time that a Zika outbreak occurred.
How soon with Pope Francis follow?
“”Nothing justifies an abortion,” said the Rev. Luciano Brito, spokesman for the Catholic Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in Brazil. “Just because a fetus has microcephaly wonât make us favorable [to abortion].”

Disabled persons even microcephalic ones love and enjoyed being loved. God loves them and they still bring joy to those who love them.
It has not been a good day for Christians standing up for basic morality.
Never. Haven't you seen the reports of his having his car stopped in the middle of processions or in the middle of nowhere so he can personally greet disabled people?
I wonder what it's like to be so prejudiced against a person that one makes up completely insane accusations ... er, "innocent questions."
I’ve always said that the Globalists have learned their lessons from Hitler and Stalin.
They will not try to reduce human numbers by killing adults.
They will simply bottleneck conception.
Lol. We sure were.
LOL!! GOOD one.
So only perfect babies are born in the image and likeness of God.
Gotcha.
“It has not been a good day for Christians standing up for basic morality.”
Seriously when is it ever???
Want all of you to do something. If your town has an abortion mill or even just a Planned Parenthood referring abortions then do this. Use Google Earth to find out how many churches are in a 50 mile radius of that building. Then tell me why there is even a mill there? Tell me why all of those churches (I don’t care what faith they are) can’t work together and drive that “business” out of town?
It’s bad enough when they do nothing now they join the enemy?
From what I am reading, there is no conclusive proof of a causal relationship between Zika and microcephaly, AND no tests in infancy that would show whether the microcephaly would result in significant mental handicap, or just a smaller hat size.
FWIW, there are University educated professionals with microcephaly.
So why not wait until the kid grows up, and then behead him if he scores low on the SAT?

I have two Down Syndrome grandchildren.
They are a blessing because they were put here by God.
