Christians pummeled by 'spirit of Esau'

Author says entitlement culture fulfillment of biblical prophecy

A stunning verdict on America has been declared: The nation has rejected its Judeo-Christian roots and is given over to a spirit of sin and rebellion. Millions of Americans sense the change and rightly fear for the future of their country. But few recognize that what is happening is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy in our own time.

That startling conclusion is one the American people desperately need to understand, according to noted Bible teacher and author Bill Cloud.

In a recent interview with radio talk-show host Carl Gallups, the Christian author discussed his new book, "Esau Rising: Ancient Adversaries and the War for America's Soul."

Cloud outlined the story of Esau and Jacob, the grandsons of Abraham and the sons of Isaac and his wife, Rebecca. He said Esau and Jacob represent two different attitudes people can take toward life, two different kinds of people who will always be in conflict.

"When Rebecca finally became pregnant, the Bible says that she was disturbed because she realized that there was a struggle within her womb," Cloud explained. "And she was told by God that she has two nations growing within her womb and to paraphrase, that these two would always be warring with one another to see who would have the dominance. The prophecy that she was given is that the older one, who turns out to be Esau, is going to serve the younger one, who turns out to be Jacob who eventually becomes Israel."

Esau eventually sells his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of soup. Cloud argues the story of Esau's choice contains a larger lesson for contemporary Christians.

Sigh. Far too many so called Christians seem to think the US is now God’s chosen people or central to the end times. Biblical prophecies are not about the US. Serious lack of discernment there.

Yeah, I can dig it:
An underclass cultivated and groomed to indulge in covetousness, greed, immorality, and theft...all with steely self-justification...to topple the supernatural gift of civilization within which we prospered and loved more than we reviled and merely subsisted.

Excellent post.

The parallel of America and Esau is spot on.

We have sold our national soul for money, for lust, for envy, and for idolatry.

We are a Break and Circus society, that numbs itself with booze, pills, filthy television programs, and sports.

Anyone notice that science states that dopamine and endorphins are the pleasure hormones/neurochemicals, but even when you’re getting a million endorphin hits from “wine, women and song”, to be polite, you can still feel more miserable than you ever did?

Then you read some psalms or some of the New Testament and feel more at peace and happy than all the endorphin hits in the world.

A person can be totally wrong about end times stuff and still be a Christian. Knowledge of eschatology is not a requirement for salvation except to understand that it is ALL going to happen in God’s time and in the way he plans it to be.

you’re begin too hard on the people- We don’t think we’re God’s ‘chosen people’ We do however believe God truly blessed this nation of ours for many years, but now is turning His back on us because many in this nation have turned their back on Him

That’s all- Some might see parallels with biblical prophecy inthat as we turn our backs on Israel, God will also stop blessing us- and soem rightfully note that the world is infact becoming a cesspool and Christians hte world over are being persecuted more and more- and so we do feel something is brewing-

There are many great lessons flowing plainly from the bible. There is no real need to find some hidden prophetic secret to show us what we ought to be doing.

The author highlights a Biblical lesson that is synonymous with American life.:

“In an American context, we now live in a day and time where there are people who are willing to trade away their birthright, or, if you will, our national heritage,” argued Cloud. “And by that I mean that heritage that acknowledges the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

We’re willing to give it away for free health care, or free education, or whatever the whim is that we’re desiring at that time. We’ve got people who now say, ‘We don’t care what our fathers lived for, fought for, died for, we want what we want and we want it now.’” Bill Cloud

IMHO; Our politicians are trading our freedom, industry, safety, sovereignty and natural resources for their personal gain and wealth.
