Visited in in 1986. The entrance to the church is an arched doorway in an otherwise run-down looking wall.
Spoke harshly about how Second Temple burial was becoming always closer to Canaanite tradition.
Why the emphasis on the tomb as Jesus abjured it?
He is not there. He is Risen.

I think it has to do with the burial of the Essene as opposed to the burial of the Jerusalem Jew of the Second Temple period. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essenes
This behavior has been going on for decades. I think it is very inappropriate and antithetical to Christianity. However, as someone pointed out in the comments on the article site, “At least they don’t use suicide bombings...”. And may I add, they don’t kill their rivals or cut off their heads either.
