I just hope that Msg. Pope spends as much effort tomorrow writing an article that attacks as strongly the slaughter of innocents in Nigeria. Then the next day about the slaughter of innocents in Iraq. Then the next day about the slaughter of Christians in Syria. Then the next day about the slaughter of innocents in Malaysia. Then maybe he can do a series on muslim clitoridectomy.
When he gets those things well under control, he should again write an article about sportswear in the West.

Wow, I’ve always considered two piece swim wear very easy on the eyes, but never considered them in any way obscene.
Big deal. The original Olympians competed naked.
Ancient Greek athletes were naked when they competed, to display their physical prowess and also to pay homage to Zeus by showing him how they had trained their bodies to their physical peak. An athletes physical perfection could also be intimidating to his competitors, and external beauty represented each competitors internal beauty and demonstrated their
desire for a balance between body and mind. Athletes were often an inspiration to artists and sculptors, who used the athletes physical prowess and movements to inspire their work. This can be seen in archaeological finds dating from that time. Because they were not covered by clothing, athletes took great care to protect their skin. Before starting the days training or competition, athletes would rub their body with olive oil then dust themselves with fine sand. This helped to regulate their body temperature and protect them from the sun. After competing, athletes would scrape off the sweat, oil and sand with a curved tool called a strigil. Then they would be washed using water and a sponge.
Best the good Monsignor NOT EVER ATTEND an “Over the Line” tournament, then!
The ones I went to in the 1980s were really, really bawdy - FRom “Miss Emerson” to team names that were not suitable for the San Diego newspaper or TV news.
No telling what it is like nowadays.
Any of you San Diego FReepers have a more recent report?
Modesty is an issue, but aside from that it is incredibly boring
These women are ALREADY being modest.
They are wearing TWICE what is typically worn at the beach by 99.9% of women who aren’t fat.
This is BEACH volleyball after all. The sand, the sun and the swimsuit are all part of the sport
I believe strongly in the separation of church and beach . . .
As a volleyball player in my youth (who very much prefers the indoor game to the beach game), I suggest the good father might want to try playing a beach event in heat before coming to conclusions. The more clothes you wear on the beach the more the sand sticks to you and that is NOT a comfortable feeling when you are playing.
Trust me, the PLAYERS are not thinking about their sex appeal while playing.
I have NOT watched even one single minute of the Olympics.
The world is in a state now where, if a person be FILTHY,
let them be filthy STILL (or unbothered). The Olympics is
dead to me; and the filthy conditions there are symbolic
of what it is.
They are essentially butt-naked, true, but when presented with a rockhard derriere that wouldn't be out of place on a fit dude, I'm just not tempted...Not that I watch beach volleyball, or any olympics, anyway.
They could wear more just for the sake of human dignity, but I sure could have done without the muslim players' getups being presented as any less offensive, albeit for the opposite reason.
And unfortunately, that's about all they're showing on TV.
Burka loving lunatics are free to turn the channel if the bikinis hurt their eyes.
In fact, modern Christians have made a sort of peace with this human-centered form of worship.
I'm sure I'm the very first person to ever think of that.
the skimpy outfits are all about drawing a crowd and have nothing to do with the volleyball. When this started being a “thing” there were American women volleyball players who complained. They didn’t want to wear swimsuits while they played. They lost the argument.
A few years ago, I bought my daughter beach “volleyball shorts” and they were like the guy’s shorts. They still sell those kind of shorts, I think. I think the Olympians should be able to wear them, if they want to. They won’t get sweaty in the wrong places, and no chafing. And they won’t be looking quite as much like athletic Barbie dolls.
1. We do not command the world to meet Christian standards. The early church isn't on record dictating to society what they should do and how they should do it. They saved souls by sharing the Gospel that saves.2. This is a game played on the beach in swim attire. What they are wearing is what you see on the beach - though some beaches have less.
3. If a contestant has concerns about modesty, they can not participate or claim to be a muslim and wear different gear - or appeal to the Olympic Volleyball Committee.
Arch... Pope simply made some assumptions - apparently while he watched beach volleyball! Wonder how many sets it took to formulate his thoughts?
Just a tempest in a very hot and dry teapot.
( ... Instead, I show a picture of some of the men...)Oh gee, I wonder why?
lets go back to what the greeks wore 2500 years ago.
