Holy Fathers come and go as is the way of all flesh.
There have been a number of far more Christian and favorable and nuanced statements (and also some less so), since that Papal quote you from over 100 years ago. Any reading of what the several Holy Fathers have said and done since that statement, including of course the official Vatican recognition of the legitimacy of the State of Israel, should serve to place things in a more accurate (factually and Biblically, imho) perspective.
God has given the Promised Land to the Jewish people as part of their eternal covenant.
We need to stop fighting against God’s expressed wishes, especially as He repeated them several times for us in His Holy Scripture. Rather, all believers Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish and Orthodox, need to get on board with, and support, God’s plan.
One clear series of Biblical references suffices (there are more, of course)...
” God said to Abram: “Go from your land ... to the land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1)
On that day, God made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river the Euphrates. The land of the Kenites, Kenizites, Kadmonites; the Chitties, Perizites, Refaim; the Emorites, Canaanites, Gigashites and Yevusites.” (Genesis 15:18-21)
“And I will give to you and to your descendants after you.... all the land of Canaan as an eternal possession (!!!!-emphasis added) and I will be a God to them.” (Genesis 17:8)
