Thank you. She represents or is a “figure” of the Church: Our Lady of the Sign (Revelation 12); Mater Ecclesia.

Not sure I understand you, MHGinTN. Are you saying Christ does not forgive this sin?

It is AMAZING how you miss the obvious...

It’s Chriut who forgives the sin, of course-— through the priest.

I’m glad to see we can agree on that, Elsie!

We also believe also in Apostolic Tradition.

You've left out 'multiple visitations from Mary'.

The 15 promises

(Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche)

1 Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies
4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying Himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise Him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
9. I  shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I  have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death
14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

"The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem,

no matter how difficult it is, wheter temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families...that cannot be solved by the Rosary.

There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary."

But I didn’t deny that sins can be forgiven outside of the Sacrament of Penance.

"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours."

--Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)

Come Lord Jesus. Come Holy Spirit. Come through Mary. Amen.

Let's try some easy math:

There are approximately 1.2 billion Catholics world wide;

If merely 1% of them  'ask' Mary for help just once each day;

that means that 12 million separate prayers are headed Mary's direction every day.

Given that there are 86,400 seconds per day... (24 hours times 60 minutes times 60 seconds)

...that means that Mary has to handle approximately 139 'requests' per second!

Purty good fer someone NOT 'divine'!

Why would Jesus delegate to his apostles the authority to forgive sins, with the expectation that said authority would expire upon the deaths of those apostles?

Why would Jesus delegate ONLYto his apostles the authority to forgive sins, with the expectation that said authority would expire upon the deaths of those apostles?

Matthew 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

I am distressed when you misinterpret an honest request for clarification...

Oh??

Are you saying Christ does not forgive this sin?

Sounds like putting words into his mouth.

He spits them out as being distasteful.

Ultimately, priest forgive sins “In Persona Christi”, in the name of Jesus, not on their own intrinsic authority.

So, if I repent and ask Jesus for forgiveness and He is faithful and just, isn’t a priest sort of an unnecessary middle man? Why would I go to a Priest when I can go directly to Jesus? I’m thinking I’m missing something here.

Priests in the NT are called presbyteroi.

The book that Rome assembled says that ALL believers are 'saints'; not just some SPECIAL group, appointed by men.

Phil. 4:21-22: “Greet every saints in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. All the saints greet you,

1 Cor 1:2: “To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints , with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

2 Cor 1:1: with all the saints who are in all Achaia:

Rom 1:7: To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints :

Phil 1:1: To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi,

Col 1:2: To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse:

Eph 1:1: To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus:

Eph. 5:3: “But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints

Jude 1:3 the faith-which was once for all delivered to the saints.”

Have you ANY idea how messy my house still is from the Halloween/ Fall Festival party?

Now the hungry horde will descend like famished vultures once again, devouring the bird, pies, cranberries.

Hogging the remote, turning off the Closed Captioning and squatting in the bathrooms!

Ain't family GREAT!!

(And for this we ARE thankful: along with God's myriad blessings; too.)

There you go again.

Attributing a BELIEF when none was expressed.

The priest, with his authority to forgive sins via the sacrament of Reconciliation, is also an earthly visible reminder of the need to repent.

That's what I'm saying - but killing defenseless babies is the worst.
If murders' souls are doomed to spend eternity in Hell, there can be no forgiveness on Earth.

I’m very sorry. I thought your writing expressed your point of view. Is this unreasonable? But this was not the case, so I apologize.

Please explain what you meant.

Sorry for the untranslated Latin. “Mater Ecclesia” = “Mother Church”
