Well, speaking of work, sometimes this place tempts me to spend less time on it than I should. I love to chew the fat, dont get me wrong. But maybe I can dine on the whole pig, so to speak.
Maybe this is an odd place to mention it, but its possible that I may be the author of a theme song, from a Christian point of view, for Lets Make America Great Again. This was requested of my musical (and spiritual) collaborator by an ASCAP affiliated Christian music publisher. ASCAP seems to be more into that; BMI (which I signed up with some years ago) seems to be more into generic country music. Out of respect to my work partner, Im not going to put it up on FR yet. However Ive floated the idea of trying to get it dished out at, or very soon after, the Trump inauguration. Its definitely, very definitely, non-secular. In fact it has strong evangelistic overtones. However, I believe that is where the zeitgeist is headed. This hunch has been backed up by seeing the zeitgeist, turning more spiritual, back up some of my other lyrics, years after I penned them.
Anyhow, the key to this is the gift of Christ, which He gave at the cross. People always were offered the gift, but some took such an attitude that they would always refuse, and God full well knew this in orchestrating the drama that we call history.
So anyhow... Im hoping to get a call to Nashville, which is kind of the gospel and country music equivalent of what Hollywood is for movies. I could feed them scads of material. And I am pretty knowledgeable about modern politics, thanks to FR. If any of you folks are of a mind to pray for this and you would agree this would bring about a blessing to America (and to the world) please do so... I know this is not in the Religion forum, but I may repeat my request there, later.
If you’re going to have something to write about, you’re going to have to have lived an interesting life, with more than it’s share of difficulty. Nothing else rings true.
heh heh heh!
practice, and pay your dues, usually. for the generic musician.
or, maybe, like me... be one of the weirdest people in the world.
It’s actually focused on God and country (and blessings), and doesn’t even bring up Donald Trump at all. That’s where the muse took me. It would be kind of like your former concept in tone, without bringing up Donald Trump specifically.
Which, also, should give it staying power beyond Donald Trump as long as the zeitgeist is there. It would back Mike Pence. It would back whoever else.
What, Mike, you want ME to be your veep?... well I laugh at the daydream. I might be too old, or my forte obviously in something else, or whatever. I never was a good manager and wouldn’t want to be pressed into a role where someone else was obviously better fit.
Sounds marvelous, glad you’re on it! :)
They sure know how to produce stuff good there in Nashville don’t they. It would be like a candy store for my buddy, who does yeoman work to produce on an older serious-amateur grade studio.
My kid loved old school country. Despises ‘new’ or ‘pop’ country.
And anyhow, I think this is characteristic of the Lord being the muse. The glory doesn’t get put on a man, but on a larger work of the Lord.
I’m sure that a producer with Nashville grade equipment could really butter this thing up even better than my buddy, but that’s what covers are about (and sometimes the covers outdo the originals in fame). You’re welcome to do it, Nashville. To God be all the glory you’ve got, Nashville.
Oh, I just love to hear how Nashville butters up some of this stuff. Now if they only had stuff that was worth buttering up!! This is what I and my buddy hope to produce. I already discussed with him the possibility of having a performance team collaborate with us, so they can take our concept and really Nashville-ify it. He does a yeoman job and is no slouch singer and his guitar work is the envy of many, but that final Nashville touch is still the cherry on top. (Besides we could not afford a steel guitar. He didn’t get too bad an effect out of a $69 Chinese lap steel and a Tube Screamer though. It’s like store brand margarine compared to butter.)
Good luck but remember Nashville proper is very liberal progressive
The nation rarely gets that
The 9-11 surrounding metro counties due to massive yankee and brown immigration tend to be fairly southern to very southern and conservative
Nashville proper is no more southern than Louisville and less so than Lexington or Knoxville
Music row infrastructure is run by career women who lean left
Americana music is the music of progressives
Dirt road pop country attracts cammo wearers but the folks who produce it could be from Queens
Nashville is like Austin pretty much but colder and greener with no live oaks
Hipsters galore and a very very major boom town feel that’s honking us all up even me 25 miles due south
Christian and Gospel I’ll be honest I simply don’t know but the folks I know in it are more PC than I am
One famous one in Franklin my wife does yoga with his wife
TM
They are libs by my standards
Anyhow I prefer the darker and more genuine Deep South where I gre up but this is my kids home so be it
On remote in Captiva
Geaux Tigers!
Yeah, frankly the way they butter up most things that they do, is like they are buttering up a piece of nostalgia. It’s nice to look at, but at the end of the day we’re back from the theater of our mind. We’re sad that the visit had to end.
But what if they could butter up our present and our future? Nostalgia would give way to hope!!!
That’s what I’ve written about. It would be another few steps up for the music this country hears if it could happen. It would be a collaboration between Nashville’s best talent and us, not just us.
It’s like the progressives have really mastered the art of superficiality.
Tell me about it.
However like there are conservatives writing in Hollywood, there are conservatives writing in Nashville. I actually view myself as a centrist. But that is still conservative compared to the left.
I am not going to the city to get something from it, so much as to bring something to it. Oh I like the country western vibe. But I have come to bring Christ to that vibe, a real Christ not a nostalgia milktoast Christ. A hero Christ.
... a Christ that is not ashamed to be seen with the rough, tough, dirty warriors in camos, and yet still stays with the grandmas.
And you got a good point about the PC plague in gospel. I always felt church music was way, way too POLITE for what the bible cracks Christ up to be. No wonder the world brushes Christian talk about Him off as a nebbish. Oh hi, Jesus, oh bye, Jesus, let’s not offend Jesus. Pope Francis got it better when he said that fighting with God is prayer. And I’m not even a Catholic and recognize this.
And in your tag, about the Trump tourniquet. Unless a Doctor comes on the scene, the limb will still rot off. This Doctor is God.
I was born and raised in Western Kentucky, about 80 miles north of Nashville. I’ve sang my whole life and I will only sing God honoring songs. My experience has been that most of the music I use is produced in Brentwood, TN. I haven’t been there in almost 30 years, but there may be a reason I felt the need to post to you. I don’t question those urges. God bless and protect you. Prayers for your protection and propagation of His Gospel.
Thanks for the details. This is going to be tied to the contact that my buddy has with ASCAP, so I don’t know if it will be a Brentwood operation, but it will be interesting to see if that is how it pans out.
In the meantime, all these insights about the ins and outs of the situation can’t possibly hurt and may prove very useful. I find that trying to overthink things can be detrimental, sometimes. Going with the Spirit’s flow, even in an uneducated or quirkily educated “redneck” manner, seems to work better.
As a lifelong resident of Nashville, just a friendly reminder if you move here, move to the suburban counties if you want good political representation. Nashville proper is left-wing moonbat, unfortunately.
I see you gave HiTech a similar and more in-depth warning to mine. ;-)
Praying your music, a great spiritual weapon, will be a spark to the revival that is so greatly needed and, I hope, given before the judgment for our nationally legalized abhorrent sins.
God Bless You!
