College-aged millennials today are far more likely than the general population to be religiously unaffiliated. This is true when they are compared to previous generations as well.
In fact, the Pew Research Center documents that millennials are the least outwardly religious American generation, where one in four are unaffiliated with any religion, far more than the share of older adults when they were ages 18 to 29.
Just over 60 percent of millennials say that Christianity is judgmental, and 64 percent say that anti-gay best describes most churches today.
In ministry circles, it has long been reported that of youth raised in homes that were to some degree Christian, roughly three-quarters will jettison that faith after high school. Just under half of this number will return to some level of church involvement in their late 20s or early 30s.

It appears to me that this is a very long term trend and not just an issues with “millennials”.
3. Militant secularism: Embraced by media and enforced in schools, secular education approaches learning through the lens of methodological naturalism. It is presupposed that all faith claims are merely expressions of subjective preference. The only true truths are claims that are divorced from any supernatural context and impose no moral obligations on human behavior. People today are subjected to an enforced secularism.
7. Intellectual skepticism. College students are encouraged to accept platitudes like life is about asking questions, not about dogmatic answers. Is that the answer? That there are no answers? Claiming to have answers is viewed as impolite. On lifes ultimate questions, it is much more socially acceptable to suspend judgment.
8. The rise of a fad called atheism. Full of self-congratulatory swagger and blasphemous bravado, pop-level atheists such as the late Christopher Hitchens (whom I interviewed twice) made it cool to be a non-believer. Many millennials, though mostly 20-something Caucasian males, are enamored by books and blogs run by God-hating thinkers.
Truth ultimately will win out. Millenials like every generation before them will mature and most but not all will see the light.
Russia could be the last country on Earth to follow Christianity as a national policy.
“Russia could be the last country on Earth to follow Christianity as a national policy.”
You mean by Russian having the highest Abortion Rate in the world and one of the highest Suicide Rates in the world?
Because in communism the government is your religion.
They seem to be much better on some things like the gay stuff, other things like abortion not so much. They could possibly be first country to make it illegal again after legalizing it, they have religious reasons and national policy reasons with their really bad demographic crisis.
Freegards
Not a bad list. They left out the fact that too many churches themselves are leaving their own beliefs behind just to seem more “relevant” and “tolerant” (bad mistake).
Except that millennials have lost the ability to debate. They are so used to shutting down the opinions of others that they don’t know how to handle data that runs contrary to group-think.
When I was a young atheist, I welcomed a debate with Christians because most witnessing Christians didn’t know what they believed. They only knew how to regurgitate what they had heard.
There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filth. Proverbs 30 KJV.
Other translations say ‘a kind’. I sometimes get tired of all the attacks on the church in the good ole USA. The American church this, and the American church that. Like we are not doing enough. We are doing, there is just not a generation that desires it. Scripture points this out. The ten reasons add to why millenials do not want to be a part of the CHURCH.
The culture war is pretty much over at this point. Television is much to blame.
Years ago Will and Grace was edgy and controversial because it had two gay characters. Now we have Modern Family with a gay family, an older man who remarried an immigrant woman 20 years his junior, and an emasculated father figure.
We’ve come a long way.
To sum up, our society worships the golden calf.
Times are good, our government can print massive money and debt without consequence it seems, and we all worship the ego and self-fulfillment, no matter how ridiculous the result.
Who needs God?
“The culture war is pretty much over at this point. Television is much to blame.”
Millennials don’t watch much TV.
Makes sense since we are living in Babylon.
Millenials believe themselves to be God.
Weak faith, weak love, weak witness.
Until once more it obviously plunges into hell.
You’d never know this at our local church.
Almost everyone is under 35 - packing 5 services each weekend and at an additional 7 other campuses we planted.
