A man was caught on surveillance video vandalizing several statues outside a historic church in Soho last week.

The strapping crook jumped a fence outside of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Sullivan Street where he began destroying the religious icons around 12:40 a.m. June 26, the video released by cops Saturday shows.

The video shows the man picking up three small statues and hurling them at a larger statue depicting the Virgin Mary, police said.

Not necessarily ROP; punks have been doing this kind of stuff forever. Unlike vandalism of mosques, which often receives national attention, these acts of vandalism against Christian churches typically remain local stories.

For some reason, a large majority of acts of vandalism against Christian churches are NOT classified as hate crimes even though it is hard to think of any other motive than hate, mockery, or contempt.

“May he convert and come to Mass every Sunday!”

THAT is wishful thinking. However, maybe it’s just the movie he hates!

They have the perp on video at the link - fat, middle aged white guy, who was not seriously intoxicated.

Just looked like a hater - probably a flaming liberal.
