A British government program designed to discourage religious extremism could affect Christians, the Catholic bishop of Shrewsbury warns.
Britons now regard the claims of Christianity and even the person of Jesus Christ as representing extremism, says Bishop Mark Davies. He cautions that Christianity itself might become a focus of the governments counter-extremism agenda.
Citing polls that show a large minority of the countrys population look upon Christian faith as a form of extremism, Bishop Davies called for careful reflection on what extremism really means. He said:
There is a destructive extremism we ought to fear, one which seeks not only to deconstruct marriage and the family, but the very identity of the human person, which calls for medical experimentation with no reference to ethical boundaries, that decrees the unborn may live only to terms fixed by man, demands legal protections be removed from the sick and the aged.

Meanwhile, the guys walking around with butcher knives and bombs are afforded all the open arms available and are not considered extremists.
Where has he been the last 500 years?
Both the UK Government and media confuse extremism with terrorism. Anarcho libertarians and Amish are extremists. But given their philosophy, it is impossible for them to be terrorists.
Palestinian terrorists are supported by a majority of delegates to the UN. By definition they are not extremists.
Some extremists are terrorists. Some males are terrorists. Some Germans and Irish and Saudis are terrorists.
Only some terrorists are extremists. What is extreme in the Quaker state is quite different from what is extreme in Syria. Is there an international standard for extremism? Or is is contextually defined by the local society in which it is seen? Can extremism be defined objectively?
But clearly terrorism can be defined objectively: The use of violence and coercion against non-combatants from a non-state actor to advance political goals.
