Luther probably had an OCD. A very driving OCD.

Then again, he did marry a woman he found in a pickled herring barrel.

She knew how to make great beer. There’s a method to the madness.

Dr. Martin Luther was a vicious antisemite, hating even the least of the Messiah's brethren.

In an uncanny corollary to history one might regard as stranger than fiction, there literally were two Dr. Martin Luthers.

  1. The first Martin Luther (November 10, 1483 - February 18, 1546) wrote the blueprint for the Holocaust with a seven (or eight) point plan, literally his own words. I wish and I ask that our rulers who have Jewish subjects exercise a sharp mercy toward these wretched people, as suggested above, to see whether this might not help (though it is doubtful). They must act like a good physician who, when gangrene has set in, proceeds without mercy to cut, saw, and burn flesh, veins, bone, and marrow. Such a procedure must also be followed in this instance. Burn down their synagogues, forbid all that I enumerated earlier, force them to work, and deal harshly with them, as Moses did in the wilderness, slaying three thousand lest the whole people perish.

  2. The second, Martin Franz Julius Luther, (16 December 1895 – 13 May 1945) attended the Wannsee Conference on 20 January 1942 as the representative of the Foreign Ministry, and after that his principal task was to persuade or pressure German satellites and allies to hand over their Jewish populations for deportation to the death camps. During this period, he also continued to work as an interior decorator for Ribbentrop's wife, helping her with the design of her various houses as well as her clothes. He resented this, stating that she treated him like one of her household servants.
