Mary, Star of the Sea, is a very, very old title applied to the Mother of God. There are many Catholic Churches that bear this name.

"Star of the Sea" seems to have been an instrumental tune. Could it have been inspired by Mary, the mother of Jesus? In any case, 35 years after she wrote "Star of the Sea," Amanda Kennedy used the same melody for "Star of the East" (1918), my favorite Christmas song.
