Churches Destroyed and Looted By ISIS Being Restored in Syria

In the Syrian city of Maaloula (Ma'loula) The Christian Church began to commence services in the Christian monastery of St. Thecla.

The pilgrims from all around the world traveled to religious shrines before the war. It was almost completely destroyed and looted by ISIS and Al-Nusra Front. When under pressure from the Syrian Arab army the Retreating Islamists took everything valuable from the temples, including ancient icons, historical manuscripts, icon lamps and altar-cross, church furnishings, tombstones and other valuable items.

The militants destroyed everything they could not hastily take along; some of the buildings were burned. After the liberation under the support of the government of Syria the citizens of Maaloula started rebuilding churches, assembling church furnishings, religious books and other objects piece by piece.

While in the city there is no influx of tourists and worshippers but locals are sure that people from all over the world, pilgrims, will be able to visit holy places again with the onset of peace and the creation of zones of de-escalation.

But the Christians try not only to rebuild Maaloula, they try to rebuild the relationship between them and the Muslims shattered by ISIS.

A Syrian priest reiterates the fact that Christians will strive to rebuild the trust that has been tainted by violence perpetrated by Islamic State. “We have to rebuild trust between Muslims and Christians even if it’s not easy,” said a Syrian priest Father Mtanios Haddad.

Funny how this “revolution” was started even though 86 percent of Syrians, including many Christians, were just fine with Assad.

I hear Christians were relatively left alone under Assad.

I KNOW he’s a bad man with ties to terror and iran.

We fixed Qaddafi’s wagon and changed his evil ways (even if only out of fear) until hillary came, saw and killed.

Syria’s pretty the last item of evidence needs to prove that you need a vicious strongman to keep people somewhat civilized in the middle east. The moment Assad control slipped they started mass murdering Christians and other minority populations.

I think that it’s up to the Muslims to rebuild the trust they had, not the Christians. After all, it wasn’t the Christians who decided to attack and destroy the icons of another religion.

And the headline is horrible. “Churches Destroyed and Looted By ISIS Being Restored in Syria”—was ISIS really being restored in Syria? I thought they were ousting ISIS?

Ever notice how the left hates Mideast strongmen who are secular, nominally Muslim, and tolerate Christians, but the same leftists absolutely love fanatical Islamic strongmen who persecute Christians.

I think that what you are describing is due to Obama and Valerie Jarrett. Anything that promotes more, and more aggressive, Islam is something they sympathize with. I think BHO is hoping that it will smooth out eventually, but at a higher level.

BHO isn’t easy to pigeonhole, but my take is: Muslim first, racist a close second (he HATES white people), and well-trained in the use of Marxist tactics in furtherance of the first two aims.

I wish my Government was not on the wrong side in this “revolution”. Oh, wait, my Government is the entity behind it.

I know this will sound of convoluted thinking, but more people die by the act of removal of the dictators in the Mideast than if they were left in place. I don’t have to mention American dead and maimed plus cost in trillions with a military at the point of exhaustion. I don’t condone their butchery and terror but can we say the Mideast is better off now than before the invasion of Iraq? It is also naive to think any Mideast country will go the way of Germany and Japan after WWII,let alone adopting anything close to democracy. On the contrary, the fight is now who will control theocracies and by what sect of Islam. What exactly are we doing there as we are at the cusp of fighting a war in the Pacific?

But have you also noticed that ever since Donald J. Trump has become President, things have started to calm down over there?

Yeah. I don’t know how much is him personally, how much is policy change with respect to which groups we support. I think and hope a big factor is Realpolitik with Putin. He’s going to go pretty far to get a Syria stable enough for him to have a base on the Mediterranean, but is probably flexible enough in other areas.

In particular, I don’t think Putin is particularly interested in expanding Iran’s influence. He’s allied with them, but using them, too. Of course they know that.

And, I don’t think Putin is particularly anti-Israeli, although his allies are.

No, right now, the US is using its’ proxies to steal Syria’s Oilfields. Russia killed over 850 terrorists in the past 48 hrs. You just aren’t reading about it here or seeing it covered in the media.

Not convoluted at all!!!!!!

Only found ONE FReeper so far who was for this mess.

Nice guy but old timer who was worried about Communist Kurds coming to power as a result, and that Assad’s father was very cruel.

Which may be true, but among Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, HOW MANY people have died or been hurt horribly?!?

For nothing

Bush missed sending the troops to Saudi Arabia by ThisMuch
