Pope Francis Strongly Criticises Catholics Who Refuse to Accept Migrants

The Pope said he was concerned about 'signs of intolerance, discrimination and xenophobia' in Europe

Pope Francis has criticised Catholics who refuse to accept migrants and refugees into their countries, saying they often cite an ill-defined “‘moral obligation’ to preserve the original cultural and religious identity” of their nations.

The “temptation of exclusivism and cultural fortification” has arisen among Catholics at times in the past, “but the Holy Spirit always helped us to overcome it, guaranteeing a constant opening to the other,” the Pope said during a meeting with the directors of migrant and refugee services from the bishops’ conferences of Europe.

“I will not hide my concern about the signs of intolerance, discrimination and xenophobia that are seen in different regions of Europe,” the Pope said. “These often are motivated by distrust and fear of the other, the different, the stranger.”

“But I’m even more worried by the sad observation that these reactions are not absent from our Catholic communities,” he said.

Catholics harbouring anti-immigrant sentiments need to realize that “the Church spread to every continent thanks to the ‘migration’ of missionaries who were convinced of the universality of the message of salvation in Jesus Christ, which is destined for men and women of every culture.”

“The Spirit, I am certain, will help us today to preserve an attitude of trusting openness, which will allow us to overcome every barrier and scale every wall,” Pope Francis said.

Once the basic Gospel attitude of welcoming the stranger is affirmed, he said, church leaders need to look at the factors contributing to such a great sense of unease about handling the current migration crisis.

The ongoing impact of the economic crisis has been “aggravated by the size and composition” of the waves of migrants trying to reach Europe, he said. The receiving........

The Bible talks at length about walls, and the Vatican has one.

I am Catholic and this Pope is the most liberal, political man in that role. We don’t nor should we have to take murderous people who are not Christians into our country when they add nothing and potentially rape and cause mayhem. This Pope is a foolish man living in his walled community.

I have somewhat recently left the Catholic church, not that catholics are bad, the institut is. God commanded me to “come out of her”.

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” King James Version (KJV)

"Odds are high that this Pope will be the demise of the Church..guy is a total Socialist, Marxist and quite possibly could be a true “Anti” Pope like has been seen several times throughout history. Really sad to see but is the worst Pope in the past 200 years."

Won't happen. The Church has faced far worse times than these, and far worse Popes.

Ill-defined??
In Europe's case this 'ill-defined moral obligation' could simply be to be non-Muslim. Being Christian would be great - but that ship left Europe's shore long ago.

In the United States' case the primary issue is being a Nation ruled by laws.

That’s absolute, anti-historical BS. The Church was the great leader of Western Civilization in resisting Islamic conquest and liberating lands theY’d conquered. Spain, for example, spent several hundred years, called the Reconquista, liberating itself from them, and was totally supported by the Church during all that time. This odious false Pope is trying to destroy the Church, just as Obola tried to destroy America.

Francisco el payaso latest pontification while not directly refering to them by name is urging acceptance of Islamic followers with all their trappings including the Sharia codex even though this wasn’t specifically stated. There should be no doubt if one examines the diplomatic language used this is whom and what he is talking about. .

Meaning no disrespect to your wife, this has nothing to do with being a dutiful Catholic. I, while a miserable sinner, am a practicing and faithful Catholic, and I believe this Pope is 100% wrong on everything having to do with politics — especially when it comes to migrants and immigration. I also KNOW that I am on solid ground theologically that I am under no obligation to agree with anything any Pope says regarding these types of issues. The Catechism of the Catholic Church lays out broad guidelines when it comes to things such as how countries must deal with immigration. As for specific policies, there is wide latitude regarding which policies Catholic individuals may espouse.

Pope Francis at best will go down in history as in ineffective Pope because he didn’t do his JOB, which is supposed to be running the Catholic CHURCH. At worst, it will turn out that he deliberately set out to destroy the Catholic Church.
