They couldn't let him teach, but he'd been there too long not to promote.
It's the problem with today's teachers. They are remarkably stupid, and even with the cover of "continuing education" (Going back to "classes" during summer vacation, usually on a cruise ship or someplace tropical.), if they learn something new, something older, like "who won WW2?" is pushed out.
