As for who was pushing for the prosecution, PETA publicized the most about the plant early on. Other groups and affiliations followed PETA’s information to get involved. Most of the groups and affiliations pushing for prosecution were left-leaning entities. To lifelong residents of Postville, Iowa, it was a long term, horrid circus of nut groups and exploiting interests administering the destruction of their community.

One of the ironies of this is that the new owner of the plant, apparently not able to find enough local workers, employs Somali. Legally, since it’s easier for them to get here legally. There’s probably a need for some sort of guest worker program.
