Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Meditating Upon The Names and Attributes of God



"My Rock"

(Old Testament)

Psalm 144

Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
    who trains my hands for war,
    my fingers for battle.
2 He is my loving God and my fortress,
    my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield, in whom I take refuge,

"My Rock"

In This Glorious Psalm of David, Verse One Speaks of War and Battle, and is the most famous line. Indeed, is there any time we need Him more? However, "Life" itself is a Battle, and in verse Two, David speaks of God's "Lovingkindness", which we need ALL the time, not just when facing an enemy.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

A Painting purported to be by Leonardo Da Vinci, called "Salvator Mundi (Savior of the World) was recently sold to a Saudi Prince on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture & Tourism on 15 November 2017, for $450.3 million, setting a new record for most expensive painting ever sold. Hopefully, it will be displayed in Abu Dhabi's Louvre Museum so that the public will still be able to enjoy it.

Although the painting is technically magnificent, and resembles the Mona Lisa in style and composition, it doesn't seem to reach me as a vision of Jesus of Nazareth. Maybe it's because the man in the picture seems dreamy and mystical, not the face of a Carpenter, not Someone Who could survive in the desert for 40 days, and certainly not a Middle Eastern Jewish Man! But, of course, that is probably the very reason God prohibited the depiction of Him in Art...no one is EVER going to get it right!

Today's Scripture Reading depicts Our God as a Rock, Who Trains my hands for War and my fingers for Battle. Anyone reading this who has served in the Military (Thank You!) knows that those initial weeks of Boot Camp are the hardest. One's identity is no longer what it was, and has been transformed into that of a Warrior. Intense training and practice changes everything. Here, the Lord tells us that HE is our Drill Instructor, Our Trainer, Our Mentor, and the One Who makes us fit for Battle.

And we SHALL encounter Battles. Sometimes every day.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Dr. McGee used to say that the Lord gives His servants, like Moses, David, Paul, the BSD degree. Backside of the Desert. Where they get there training. (Even Jesus spent 40 in the wilderness tempted by the Devil.)

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem

It's an odd painting.

The crisp detail in the clothing and hands is quite a contrast to the 'blurred' face and neck. This image really isn't a good example of that, but just to toss one out there.

Although the painting is technically magnificent, and resembles the Mona Lisa in style and composition, it doesn't seem to reach me as a vision of Jesus of Nazareth. Perhaps the meaning we are supposed to pick up from this recent sale is simply that out of the blue, this painting/portait ended up in the news. And that it's certainly not the Jesus people are expecting, what with his Western appearance.
