Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Meditating Upon The Names and Attributes of God



"King"

(Old Testament)

Zechariah 9:9-12

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
    Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
    righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

"King"

We are Americans. We Believe in The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights. The idea of a human "king" is foreign and archaic to us. Perhaps this is a good thing when accepting the idea of God as "KING". He is so far above any human's notion of "Kingship" that He Stands Alone as Sovereign King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And, unlike human "kings" He LOVES us with a Love that surpasses Knowledge. Power does not corrupt Him, as it would a human "king". Worship does not "flatter' Him, as it Would a human "king", either. Glory does not "spoil" Him, as it would a human "king". He is Righteous, Holy, and Good, so Our Worship is DUE to Him and Him Alone.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

"We sprang from Kings," Grampy said, "And sometimes, we sprang AT them too!"

My maternal grandfather was very proud of his Irish name. Although it was a common sounding name, it was spelled slightly different than all the others, because of a single vowel. Grampy told us that his ancestors, in a place that sounded like "Kerry-Two-Hill" were of noble birth, but who had fought against the King of England, and the village was destroyed as a result.

My sister, when visiting Ireland, tried to find the village, but there was no such thing. She checked all the maps in County Cork, and finally, saw something that began with a "C", ended with an "L" and had a stew of consonants in between. She drove to the place and found a ruined little town, with roof-less abandoned cottages, and a churchyard. In the churchyard, she found a marker with Grampy's surname on it, spelled the way Grampy did, with the exceptional vowel in just the right spot.

No earthly king is worthy of worship. And when that earthly king oppresses the people, it's time to change or remove him. We, as Americans, have done this, and so have other countries over the centuries. As a result, most of us cringe a little when we see other nations crowning kings.

On the other hand, there is something in our hearts that yearns for the pomp and glory of a King. The way the tabloids are always filled with stories about "The Royals", the hysteria over Princes William and Harry, and the absurdity of the myriads of Saudi "members of the Royal Family" are always in the News. There have even been columns right here on Free Republic of a distant relative of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, trying to restore the Monarchy.

Could it be, that deep in our hearts, we KNOW that there is One King over all? Could it be that our longing for His Reign, when we pray, "Thy Kingdom Come" is somehow manifested in elevating movie stars, rock musicians, and dynasties to "Royalty"?

And, when we finally do make these people "king", we have different ways of coping when they fall. Sometimes we are devastated, and sometimes we react with gleeful Schadenfreude! That is because we know that there is Only One King, and His Name is YAHWEH.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Even the Galileans had a distinctive American vibe to them, because anybody who was anybody of stature, looked down upon those unsophisticated rubes.

Yes indeed. The sophisticated religious and cultured people of Jerusalem considered the Galileans to be very “rustic”. This is born out several places in Scripture, even by a servant girl pointing out Peter’s Galilean “Accent”.

Interesting little place. That’s neat that you could fish out an ancestral village.

Americans come from the most obscure places all over the planet. Nowadays the elites with their nefarious agenda intentionally conflate legitimate want-to-be-an-American immigrants with interlopers.

I was about to hit reply a little bit ago, but then I heard a turkey outside the kitchen door calling for me.

Poor little sweethearts, they are so needy in this frigid weather. They sure came-a-running. I could put 100# of corn out there and it would be gobbled up in short order. I can only do what I can.

Yes indeed. A true “Immigrant”, seeking to work, make a better life for his family, and become an American is different that what we have now.

The ancestor from “Kerry-Two-Hill” immediately joined the army upon his arrival in the New World, and ended up being in the Ninth Massachusetts Infantry and was wounded in the First Battle of Manasses (Bull Run). Upon his return to Boston, He joined the National Guard and ended up fighting the Great Boston Fire that leveled the West End (Where Government Center is now).

He is buried in a very old section of Old Calvary Cemetery in Roslindale, MA (part of Boston) that is set aside for Civil War Vets.

Those are the kind of immigrants that made America great back-in-the-day. None of us object to those kind of immigrants whatever color or ethnicity they may be.
