Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Meditating Upon The Names and Attributes of God
"The Living God"
(Old Testament)
Daniel 6:20
20 When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?
(End of Scripture Passage)
"The Living God"
Not only was Nebuchadnezzar a pagan polytheist, but he also believed that he himself was a "god". Yet, Confronted with the God of Daniel, he was struck with awe, and called Daniel's God, "The LIVING God". This started a struggle within his own heart that led eventually to seven years of madness, in which he wandered the wilderness, allowed his hair and nails to grow out, and ate grass like an ox. His religion, culture, and training conflicted so much with the Proof of his own eyes and ears, that it led to this breakdown. Eventually, he was healed, and declared Daniel's God the "Living God".
Daniel served Nebuchadnezzar faithfully, as well as his heirs, the conquering Medes and Persians, and probably died in the service to Cyrus, the great Persian King who underwrote the rebuilding of The Temple. Daniel's God is Indeed the LIVING GOD, who transcends Time and Space, Rulers and Empires, Kings and Kingdoms.
We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.
And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?"

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Just the other night, on Cable, I was watching a series about Big Cats. The most recent program was about cats in Asia and Africa. Snow Leopards, Bengal Tigers, and other beautiful creatures graced my TV screen, and the last segment was about Lions. Unlike the solitary cats that roam the earth seeking their prey, Lions form large social groups called "Prides". They hunt together, babysit for each other, nurse each other's cubs, patrol the perimeter, and protect each other. A Human "Animal Behavior Specialist" has managed to infiltrate the Pride and has been "accepted" by the group. How long this will last is anybody's guess, and who knows what will happen next! In any case, the man in question was interviewed and said it took YEARS before he was "accepted". With incredible patience, he managed to earn the Lions' trust with years of painstaking "courtship".
But, this could come crashing down with the slightest provocation.
The tragic ending of Seigfried and Roy's career comes to mind, as they actually SLEPT with their Big Cats, and raised them from birth. Yet, one of the trainers was horribly mauled, and brought the glittering Vegas Act to an end.
There is no other way to describe Daniel's Experience in the Lions' Den as anything but a Sovereign Miracle of The Living God.
Even a Pagan King could see that!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

More importantly than earning the trust of a lion is putting his trust in the Lord. . .which I hope he has done.
Agreeing in prayer.

A den of lions, a giant named Goliath, the little problem with Sarah being 90 years old...
Eh, what's a vowel in the big scheme of things? The Living God *is* the Loving God. That's why He's alive!
There's a play in the letters of the Abraham that alludes to this exalted love. Abraham's love of his son Isaac is the first appearance in the Torah of the verb "to love":
1. And it came to pass after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, Abraham; and he said, Behold, here I am (hineni):
2. And he said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you:
Ex 3.
4. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses; And he said, Here am I (hineni):
14. And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM; and he said, Thus shall you say to the people of Israel, I AM has sent me to you:
15. And God said moreover to Moses, Thus shall you say to the people of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you; this is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations:
Hineni, "Here I am", really sums up how it all begins, how it is all supposed to work.
The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you; this is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.
There is much insighful commentary on the identity of the 'forever name' in this verse.. YHVH, or Ehyeh asher Ehyeh, but another angle is that a person's name is also his character (reputation, fame). And His name is His memorial to all generations. That's where it rolls right back to the Loving God and the core character of the Patriarchs: those who's character is this 'forever love'.
"I am WHO I am"... meaning the character of whole-hearted, selfless love. To see the man who's character is this is to see the Father.
"There is no other way to describe Daniel's Experience in the Lions' Den as anything but a Sovereign Miracle of The Living God."
The love of God is truly alive. It's life back from the dead. Living God - Loving God. To live is to love; to love is to live:
Matthew 22
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
The 'Galilean rustic' who is out tending his sheep will be arriving soon to show everyone how it's done! He starts every day with a simple premise: "Hineni."
Shocking in its simplicity. Will be a disaster for a lot of folks though, those expecting Jesus to show up in order to mow their lawns.
Wait for it...

Ha! The "Vowel" that made my Grandfather's surname "Royal" was an "O". (See Yesterday's Thread!)

You'd think I would have least been able to catch the who's verses whose! I don't know why that one often slips by me, but it works anyway, because He IS who's He.
Still irks me though. I hate missing the slightest detail! What a 'royal' pain [I am]. I've gotta chill... WWJD.. :)

That name is such a comfort.
Praying with you for the peace, prosperity, protection, enlightenment, favor and sustenance for the sons of Israel.
Remember Tim Treadwell or the current internet story about a woman who “cuddled” with her python until she realized it was preparing itself for a dinner just her size? Haughtiness before a fall there, too.

Interesting comparison, left that other site
I was with my husband and two friends in the Mirage, October 2003, buying a Siegfried and Roy T-shirt with the white tiger while the sold-out show was going on upstairs. (I had wanted to see it, but it was...sold-out.)
The store clerk told one of friends as I was ringing up the shirt -—Roy just got mauled! Following the local news in our hotel, Las Vegas was really shook up. Those reporting on high school football games were emotional on TV and it showed.
I couldn’t wear that shirt for 6 months.
