The OT is not good for the Giblet Crowd. Although arguably the NT is even harder.

There are so many things in the Old Testament that are referenced in the New Testament.

Take a class on typology.

The Old Testament is only for those who actually believe in the G-d of Abraham, and realize that everything in the New Testament is founded and based upon its promises. The New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old. Everything in the Old Testament will happen, whether the Replacement Theologians accept it or not. G_d is not a liar, but the the G_d of truth.

Oh, my word! Ping!

I know a Missionary who told us that the Gospel was preached at about the same time in Japan and Korea. Korea had translations of the Old and New Testament - Japan had only the New - one took hold, the other not so much.
I am sure there were other factors, but still . . .

Paul informed us about why the OT is important to Christians in his first letter to the Corinthians:

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
(1Co 15:1-4; KJV)

As he wrote, the OT pointed to Jesus. It is the key to understanding the New Testament and is often overlooked because most Christian see it through a lens of Grecian philosophy and Church council decrees which flow from that perspective. Now I’m not from the Hebraic Roots movement or the modern iteration of the Ebionites. However, I do agree with them on the principle that one must look at the New Testament with a good knowledge of the culture God made use of to produce his word, the whole thing. So that means a thorough knowledge of the Old Testament along with a good foundation of knowledge of the ancient Hebrew culture.

That doesn’t mean becoming Torah observant, Paul argued vehemently against that for good reason. It just means gaining the knowledge needed for understanding.

Nature is general revelation

The entire Bible is special revelation

Knowledge of divine law requires both

Over and over again, Elohim says the He declared the end from the beginning. The Torah is were it was written down for us. The equal letter skip code that describes the 2016 Presidential Election is in the Book of Deuteronomy. Those who disregard this do so at their own peril.

.
What nonsense!

The “Old Testament” is the totality of the scriptures that Yeshua and his disciples preached!

The Gospel is found only in the “Old Testament.”

Well, now that the symposium is wrapping up, it is nice to see so many comments on the content of what the speakers spoke about regarding the Old Testament.

Why Do We Still Need The Old Testament?

Because Old Testament/New Testament is ALL from God - holy men of God spoke as they were carried along/moved by the Holy Spirit (II Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit doesn't change, truth doesn't change. Jesus upheld His authority and defended His deity from the Old Testament Scriptures. There is much we need to learn about the character of God, His purpose for creation, His relationship with it all and His redemption of mankind through faith in Jesus Christ. The gospel is carried throughout the Word. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Christ Jesus himself said he fulfilled the law perfectly. What is the law? It’s in the OT!
Anyone trying to get rid of the OT is of the devil. Period.
