The constant left turn certainly was a large part of the reason I left them. Probably second only to the stunning amount of political corruption in the administration I was exposed to. Even after five years I can’t trust myself to be in the same building with one pastor in particular.
And for the UMC, it also depends on the congregation. My traditional UMC is usually packed on Sunday, and we are in great financial shape.
The other (liberal, new age, SJW type congregation) UMC in town... not so much.
Good to hear there are still some traditional, orthodox UMC congregations out there.
There are a few... and my congregation owns the building/grounds via a trust; the UMC District holds a 99-year lease at $0.01 per year. The terms allow the trust to cancel the lease for several causes. AND, the congregation has pass/fail authority over it’s pastoral staff.
This congregation vacated it’s district-own building and built it’s own in the early 80s - when they saw the leftward-tilt beginning.
Alot of wealthy and powerful people attend my Church, and if there is a hard-core leftist attending, I haven’t met or heard of them yet.
Curious. Usually the Methodists cycle out their pastors in 3-5 years. Might be some problems at the top, at least locally.
the Africans should not be looked down on. They are the ones keeping the west true to Christ’s teachings.
The Africans are the solid bloc of votes standing between the UMC and apostasy. There have been multiple efforts to jettison them into their own regional church, but that has failed to date.
