Catholic college won’t defend student threatened with gay rape for defending marriage

Catholic college students are threatening, harassing, and targeting a Resident Advisor (RA), including with a cartoon depicting him being anally raped, for posting a bulletin board affirming Catholic teaching on marriage.

“I couldn’t even go brush my teeth for several nights without facing a mob in my hallway,” the RA, Michael Smalanskas, told LifeSiteNews.

Providence College, where this is taking place, is run by the Dominican order’s Province of St. Joseph – well-known in most places for its orthodoxy. However, in response to repeated vandalism of the bulletin board and other student employees threateningly congregating outside the Catholic RA’s door – requiring campus security to move Smalanskas to a safe, undisclosed location – the college’s president, a Dominican priest, said “it belongs to a Catholic college to consider the views of those who disagree with the Church’s teaching.”

Another administrator, Vice President of Student Affairs Kristine Goodwin, sent an email to student leaders on March 14 encouraging them to attend a protest “against homophobia and transphobia,” quoting Pope Francis’ now-infamous claim that the Church should apologize to gays, and quoting Father Timothy Radcliffe, a Dominican priest who has suggested sodomy can be “eucharistic.”

It’s the college. Scared of the masses. It’s the same when blacks riot.

Many "Catholic" universities are putting the Sodom back into sodomy faster than a Modernist priest can get through the Novus Ordo Roman Canon ...

This is why we have school shooters: not guns but political correctness allowing cover for terrorist activities.

The varnints and pests are all over and the hunting is still not allowed.

Sorry but Providence College has to take a long hard look in the mirror, reform or close.

“it belongs to a Catholic college to consider the views of those who disagree with the Church’s teaching.”

Uh...NO it does NOT.

From where does he pretend to get this obligation?

I’m not even Roman Catholic — I’m a pesky Protestant, a crazy Evangelical, and I’m rolling my eyes at why religious institutions aren’t requiring statements of commitment to what they officially state should be believed.

It would be better for a theological school to be wrong, than to stand for nothing at all.

That’s a hostile studying environment. The young man needs to switch schools asap. Otherwise, there are many who would want to sabotage any chance of being successful while enrolled in that school. Leave that snake pit like yesterday!

Maybe 10 or 20 nationwide would be what you would expect if you had a strong religious upbringing. Many of these are newer, and not founded by religious orders. Some are a bit kooky or tradish. Obviously any Jesuit, Dominican, etc, colleges are secularized. It’s often the name, background, reputation and charming campuses that keep these going. Someone wrote a book on colleges that are authentically Catholic.

The Dominican’s are not the Jesuits. My daughters went to a Catholic HS run by the sisters from Nashville and it is a fabulous, faithful school. My Sistter went to PC and is sick about the latest development

[T]he college’s president, a Dominican priest, said “it belongs to a Catholic college to consider the views of those who disagree with the Church’s teaching.”

Does that include creationists, total inerrantists, Biblical literalists, believers in verbal-plenary inspiration, or millennialists?

I didn't think so. Hypocrites!
