It is not "rising", it is lowering of Christ's dead body. Here's another:



Russian icon, Deposition of the Cross 22x27cm.
This is the event occurring on Good Friday. The icon represents the theme of the Lamentation. The Virgin is kissing her son's face; John is leaning on the body, Joseph of Arimathea is praying by his feet and Nicodemus is overwhelmed by the pain.

This icon is hand painted in Russia following the iconographic tradition and the severe rules of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Although the English vendor calls it "Deposition", in the Western tradition, the inscription on the icon, in Russian, says "Removal From the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ"

Since the Palm Sunday readings also include the complete Passion, it was appropriate to finish the picture section with it.
