Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Story of The Exodus

(Old Testament)

Exodus 11

The Plague on the Firstborn

11 Now the Lord had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely. 2 Tell the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.” 3 (The Lord made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and Moses himself was highly regarded in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.)

4 So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. 5 Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. 6 There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again. 7 But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any person or animal.’ Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel. 8 All these officials of yours will come to me, bowing down before me and saying, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will leave.” Then Moses, hot with anger, left Pharaoh.

9 The Lord had said to Moses, “Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you—so that my wonders may be multiplied in Egypt.” 10 Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country.

(End of Scripture Passage)

"Why", Bible Students and Religious People might ask, "Does God Harden Pharaoh's Heart? Why doesn't He just RESCUE the people? Why are there Pharaohs and Hamans and Hitlers in the World? Why wouldn't Pharaoh just let the People go, and thus SAVE his own Nation?" This question bothered Cecil B DeMille so much that a character was created (Nefertiri, the Jealous Queen) to explain the hardening of Pharaoh's heart.

Though I am not a scholar, I suggest that God GAVE us His reason in the lines of Scripture. The Pharaoh could attempt to explain away nearly all of the plagues by citing an over-bloom of red algae, which killed the fish, which expelled the frogs from the river, which attracted gnats, flies, skin diseases and cattle sickness. The darkness could have been some kind of weird eclipse. The hail and the locusts...well that happens too sometimes. But the last plague was so horrible that it could ONLY have come from an Almighty that put his own "gods" to eternal shame.

The Hebrews, too, had to know that this was the Hand of God, not their own doing, or even the work of Moses.

Oddly enough, even to this day, the History Channel and Hollywood are replete with programs that try to explain away the Miracles of the Exodus by citing the Santorini Volcano, Red Tide, Locust Swarm Cycles, Global Warming, a Mini-Ice Age, or Drought Conditions.

But there is no way they can explain away THIS one.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Last night, my computer became impossible to use. So I unplugged everything, and brought it to a Tek Guy, and he had to keep it overnight. I was WITHOUT a computer for over 24 HOURS!!! YIKES! So I practiced the piano, played a bunch of Sonatinas, Played some Beethoven, Painted some pictures, read some books, and did some crossword puzzles. (If my guitar wasn't ALSO in the shop, I would have played guitar too!)

Passover begins at sundown tomorrow and it is also Good Friday on the Latin Calendar so Today's reading of Exodus could not have come at a better time. I will post at the regular time tomorrow morning.

Come and pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

May the strength of God pilot us, may the wisdom of God instruct us, may the hand of God protect us, may the word of God direct us. Be always ours this day and for evermore.
(St. Patrick)

I miss it but my left hand could never keep up anyway. Now I play the touch keyboard on my 10 inch Kindle.

Have a blessed Easter.

The left hand coordinated with the right is the hardest thing to teach. That’s why I start Kids out with both hands right away, bypassing several books in the curriculum which seem to keep them separate for too long.

May you have a Blessed Easter as well!

I had major major computer problems and after almost 50 hours with the AVAST techies, put it away for a month and a half until I had the time to find and take it to someone to fix. I resorted to a standby that I had only used a couple of times. Well, it is crunch time preparing for tax filing, National Day of Prayer and my Sunday School class (we are on a pretend trip to Israel again) . . .I was feeling more than anxious last night so I got the computer out. . .checked on the internet again for something to try. I had no clue what I was doing or if I was going to totally crash. . .so I prayed first of course and then hit keys, etc. etc. etc. You can’t imagine the jubilation I experienced when I actually saw my desk top with all of its icons pop up!!!!! I still need to have someone get my stuff off of it, but I was able to get the immediate information I needed. I give thanks and all glory to the Lord!
