FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) - A church in West Virginia has been voted out of its local Baptist association because its pastor says gays and lesbians should be welcomed.

The Times West Virginian reports the Fairmont Baptist Association voted to disfellow the First Baptist Church in early April.

I fairly recently saw a photo of services at the First Baptist Church of Belgrade. I think that was the city. Anyway it was in Romania.

One thing which struck me was that every female over maybe 14, in the large congregation was either wearing a hat or had a small cloth over her head.

I got to thinking and remembered when my Mother and all the other women in our Southern Baptist Church wore hats or head coverings. I am not sure when it changed but it did.

You got the zot twice yet I see you're back again.

This is getting ridiculous. It's obvious you're a Dem troll.

Mods: Why do you keep allowing this Dem troll back?

My Baptist Church welcomes homosexuals. But our minister says that they will hear the truth that God thinks their homosexual sin is an abomination.

Jesus said the well didn’t need a physician. He came to save the unrighteous.

As soon as I saw the name it came as no surprise.

    I see the two problems:
  1. Pastor Valerie ... she said "many progressive Christians reject outright the idea that homosexual behavior is a violation of God's law."

  2. Gittings' church rejected her offer to resign, saying in a statement they hope the local association "will return to the Baptist fundamentals of soul liberty and local church autonomy."

That’s my understanding also.

Everyone is welcome at church, including homosexual people, others who have sinned, those who don’t have strong faith, or faith at all. All are welcome. Where these people lose it, is the implication that openly gay, for example, are welcome to come in and change the church and theology to suit them. It doesn’t work that way.

“My Baptist Church welcomes homosexuals...”

Yea but somehow I figure this one was not trying to convert them but just allow them to continue in sin.

Am noticing a lot of people who call themselves Christian will believe homosexuality is a sin until a family member, esp if it’s a child comes out as gay. Then “oh he or she’s a good person” Don’t matter he or she is still going to hell for that. Why so I suspect that is what is going on in this church, and other churches across America?

Woman “pastor” = totally against God’s will, what do you expect.

The pattern continues. When women step into the pastor role, against Scripture, the position against homosexuality is usually the next Biblical position to fall.

I agree with you.

I know some gay people that seem to shop churches until they find one that will fit their lifestyle. It may not be the truth but they can hear what they want to hear.

I don’t know any gays or lesbians. I know people who are spiritually dead, and those who have been made alive in Christ.

Both groups need the Word of God, the former, so the Truth will make them free. The latter group, so the Truth can sanctify them and make them grow.

I think Believers sometimes make issues far too complicated. Satan (the left) wants division and strife, even if he has to invent oppressed groups. The only minority that truly matters is the individual. Don’t play identity politics. Minister to the individual(s) no matter how pitiful satan has left them.

I believe your comment is very wise:

“Everyone should be welcome at church, but pretending that homosexuality is normal should not be a stance of any church. “

I believe they need witnessed to. And taught right from wrong. The Holy Spirit may have moved them to come to church to break out of it. Welcome sinners, but preach the gospel.

Someone dying of thirst needs water. Just as sinners need the living waters of Christ. You have to be come to it before you can receive it.

Being ready to forgive and offer redemption is Gods Gift. We provide guidance. But do not pretend sin is OK. But still, provide family guidance, love, and TRUTH.
Gospel doesn’t change.

It is when the church starts ‘celebrating’ homosexuality and treating it as a mere alternative lifestyle that it becomes a travesty and mockery of Gods word.

No queerness is historically a mental illness. It was successfully treated with brain shock for 70’years!! It is quite reversable like any mental illness.

Went t their Facebook page. Lego club, a movie, even a day to have your pets “blessed”. Nothing remotely evangelistic. Not surprising, why worry about sharing a faith not worth having?
