For Catholics, Marriage is a Sacrament, integrally tied to the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Hence, the preferred venue is at the Altar.

Jesus died outdoors on a cross, not in a church on an altar.
It didn’t seem to be a problem for God when He married Adam and Eve.
