1 Corinthians 15:1-8 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

The Bible defines the Gospel. Twice it declares the essential element of the Scriptures. The Hebrew Scriptures prophecy of all that Christ did. The Greek Scriptures provide the eye-witness account of His words and deeds. This includes His death, burial, and resurrection. While physical and extra-biblical historical evidence may exist for the resurrection, our faith does not depend on these.

If we can unplug the Hebrew Scripture from today’s theology and discussion of life, we can permit a whole bunch of sin. And that is the end game.

As Jesus walked along the road to Emmaus with a few disciples, it is written in Luke 24:27 the following, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself”. Andy has fallen so far from the mark. It is so tragic to me. How is it that he cannot see that beginning with Moses and all the prophets it is a narrative woven through the truth of the events if God’s chosen people that clearly illustrates man’s need for a redeemer and that being Christ himself? Andy wants to cut off the Old Testament and dispose of it. How would the New Covenant even begin to make sense if we did not understand it’s need grown out of the old Covenant. He has become a false teacher and for that I am very sad. Surely his father mourns.

[[Andy Stanley’s sermon series “The Aftermath” demonstrates a downgrade in evangelical theology.]]

Many of his ‘sermons’ demonstrate that he is not preaching the word of God but rather his own twisted theology

This is an interesting movement. I believe in much of what he says. But it is too long and devisive to discuss here. But it is going to not go away.

“As part of my shift, I stopped leveraging the authority of Scripture and began leveraging the authority and stories of the people behind the Scripture,” Stanley explained. “To be clear, I don’t believe ‘the Bible says,’ ‘Scripture teaches,’ and ‘the Word of God commands’ are incorrect approaches. But they are ineffective approaches for post-Christian people.”

https://juicyecumenism.com/2018/05/16/andy-stanley-responds-unhitch-criticisms/

If all we have to offer is ‘life stories’, then what distinguishes us from ANYONE claiming ANYTHING?

“Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.

And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” - the Apostle Peter

I realize many will never be convinced of anything by reading or hearing the Word of God. That is why the Wide Road goes downhill! But if I could argue someone into faith, I could argue them back out. Their faith needs to rest on something more secure than man-made arguments and persuasion. And that is the Word of God.

If someone reads the Gospels and doesn’t recognize Jesus as Lord, my life story isn’t going to do squat!

A good criticism of Stanley’s position by John Piper is found here:

https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/open-bibles-burning-hearts

A sample:

“Here’s what I mean. Saving faith is not the persuasion that the resurrection of Jesus rose bodily from the grave. That persuasion is essential to saving faith, but not the essence of it. The devil knows that Jesus rose from the dead, and he is not saved (see also Luke 16:31). The essence of saving faith is seeing the supreme beauty of Christ in the meaning of the event, and embracing him as Savior, and Lord, and the greatest Treasure in the universe. Satan does not see the crucified and risen Christ as supremely beautiful, and he does not treasure him. But believers do. That is the essence of saving faith....

...Therefore, what I am suggesting is that in our present New Testament we have the consummation of God’s demonstration of the beauty and worth of Christ. It is God’s own complete portrait of the glory of his Son — the meaning of his work from eternity to eternity, and its implications for human life....”

Forgive me if I repeat for emphasis:

“It is God’s own complete portrait of the glory of his Son — the meaning of his work from eternity to eternity, and its implications for human life....”

It is GOD speaking to man! A man who rejects GOD’s portrait of Jesus will not be convinced by mine!

Andy Stanley is a heretic, teaching false doctrine on a whole host of issues and neither the leadership of the church he "pastors"/is leading astray; nor the Southern Baptist Convention has the guts to confront him on it, subject him to biblical church discipline as outlined in Matthew 18, or remove him from the church and from his position if he refuses to repent.

All because he pastors a "mega 'church'" and they both care more about "numbers" than they do the truth, honoring God, and obeying His Word.

My heart goes out to his godly father Charles Stanley. That said, if no one has the strength to confront Andy over his heresies, his father should.

..he is representative of the post-modern so-called church. 180 degrees from where his dad was most of his ministry. Now Dr. Stanley is simply tired...

Andy Stanley is an apostate, false teacher, who will stand before God and pay for every person he led to hell. The Bible makes it clear that pastors, pretending to be pastors, teachers, deacons, etc., shall be held to a higher standard and God will judge them for what they did in those positions. Andy boy is probably in trouble as he continues to spout his anti-Bible garbage. His pro-homo agenda.

His testing of Andy Stanley’s sermon series was very good. I just posted a thread on part 3 of the series where it seems at the end Stanley opens the door wide to sexual immorality. That seems like it might have been the whole point of the series.
