As I recall:

The Big Reason to dispute the historicity of the Bible was the lack of independent verification for the existence of the sprawling Hittite Empire. No reasonable archeologist...

Then they dug up Hattushah, the capitol, in 1906. Oops.

But no real problem. They moved on to the next Big Reason without missing a beat.

That was all I needed to learn about academia versus the Bible.

[a month later] Nope. The discovery of the archive led to a need for a name for the so-called "Forgotten Empire", so the name was plucked from the Old Testament.

If all the stories, places and names in the Bible were simply fictitious narratives, it would be a massive effort for a lot of people to imagine these stories, no?

The simplist explanation is that they are mostly true with a dose of propaganda added. Occam’s Razon.
