Your replies were very thorough, thank you. In general, IMHO, they are in accord with Catholic teaching, like it or not.

But then there are the examples you state; some we even have debated on FR before; not much more to say on them.

So, please don’t feel the need to examine each of them here.

Some have been misunderstood by Protestants, and badly mis-explained by some Catholics, over centuries.

To me, personally, the more important of those tenets to the life of a Christian and his/her salvation, the more directly Biblical they are and the better link they have to early tradition.

And holding any of all those (correctly understood) examples does not cause mortal sin - goes back to the original point.

I defer to you all for the last word...

It was a good exercise to list all of the Scriptures. I have Logos Bible Software. Last night I was able to comprise an even greater listing of verses that point to the superiority of the written word, Scripture, over any tradition.

In the NT for example, roughly 1 in 28 verses points to the OT or has a clear reference to the written word given by God to man.

That is quite a testimony from the NT as to how Scripture was viewed.

But to conclude this otherwise pleasant discussion, 2 Timothy 3:15-17 is our guide on this.

It is the verse that tells us that Scripture, and only Scripture is inspired by God, is sufficient teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Roman Catholic "Tradition" cannot make that claim.
