Pope Francis thanked Mediterranean migrant rescue teams for 'embodying the parable of the Good Samaritan'
Hearts that are closed to welcoming migrants and refugees are similar to those of the Pharisees, who often would preach sacrifice and following Gods law without exercising mercy to those in need, Pope Francis said.
Jesuss rebuke of the Pharisees insidious murmuring is a finger pointed at the sterile hypocrisy of those who do not want to dirty their hands, like the priest or the Levite in the parable of the good Samaritan, the Pope said in his homily on July 6 during a Mass commemorating the fifth anniversary of his visit to the southern Mediterranean island of Lampedusa.
This is a temptation powerfully present in our own day. It takes the form of closing our hearts to those who have the right just as we do to security and dignified living conditions. It builds walls, real or virtual, rather than bridges, he said.
According to the Vatican, an estimated 200 migrants, refugees and rescue volunteers attended the Mass, which was celebrated at the altar of St Peters Basilica. Pope Francis greeted each person present after the Mass ended.
In his homily, the Pope recalled his visit to Lampedusa and repeated that timeless appeal to human responsibility, Where is your brother? His blood cries out to me.'
Sadly, he said, the response to this appeal, even if at times generous, has not been enough, and we continue to grieve thousands of deaths.

Does this guy ever talk about the triune God, faith, the Scriptures or the hereafter?
He can fit a thousand savages into the city he unilaterally controls.
The part where the Pope dramatically opened the Vatican walls (”No more walls! No more walls!” he declared.) and said the Catholics will now house, feed and give full medical care to all the world’s immigrants and refugees was truly thrilling.
Catholic churches will now house families-—no separation of children—for all refugees and immigrants. About 110 million people around the world had expressed the intention to enter the United States if allowed, to be taken care of by American taxpayers. Now they will flood to the Vatican and other Catholic enclaves. So noble.
Then I woke up.
Half a million mostly young Libyan men ready to cross the Mediterranean ... are not migrants. They are an invading army.
When I hear naïve statements like that it amazes me how little this Pope seems to understand about a competitive religion like Islam.
Integrating into a non Muslim society is the last thing a Muslim should be doing. Tom
Oh...SHADDUP! Or take a few thousand into YOUR compound....
Not my Pope!
Pope Soros.
Francis is a hypopecrite.
Long live The Real Pope, whose name is Benedict, may his reign resume.
How high are the walls protecting the Antichrists compound at the Vatican?

A thousand easily. Francis could sell off just part of the Vatican art collection, and then build a high-rise where the Vatican Gardens are now. I wonder why he doesn’t do that.
I guess he’s just too busy telling everyone else what to do.
The Pharasaic movement became modern Orthodox Judaism.
UGH UGH UGH
+1
Migrants my a$$. Illegal invaders is more like it.
Couldn’t have “said it” any better meself!
Pictures really are worth 1,000 words!
Sorry, cannot build any high-rises. By Italian law, nothing in Rome may exceed the height of St. Peter’s dome.
