Agree, but of course we didn’t even have these flaky permanent deacons in the good old days. In any case, he could be removed or suspended from his “ministry” with no problem.

Most of the permanent deacons I’ve met are either elderly “failed priests,” as we used to call them (meaning somebody who’d washed out of the seminary back when it really required something of the students), or decent but nebbishy guys whose wives are ordering them to do this. I’m sure there are exceptions and in fact I even know one who is great, intelligent and orthodox, and probably could have gotten ordained except that our local seminary was very gay-friendly when he started in it.

Be that as it may, Cordileone (who is good but gets no support) should simply remove him. The “deacon” doesn’t give a darn about what the Archbishop says, and there’s no reason to keep him on the roster.
