Agree, but of course we didnt even have these flaky permanent deacons in the good old days. In any case, he could be removed or suspended from his ministry with no problem.
Most of the permanent deacons Ive met are either elderly failed priests, as we used to call them (meaning somebody whod washed out of the seminary back when it really required something of the students), or decent but nebbishy guys whose wives are ordering them to do this. Im sure there are exceptions and in fact I even know one who is great, intelligent and orthodox, and probably could have gotten ordained except that our local seminary was very gay-friendly when he started in it.
Be that as it may, Cordileone (who is good but gets no support) should simply remove him. The deacon doesnt give a darn about what the Archbishop says, and theres no reason to keep him on the roster.
