Man Says Cardinal McCarrick, His ‘Uncle Ted,’ Sexually Abused Him for Years
The New York Times ^ | 7/19/18 | Sharon Otterman

James was 11 years old when Father Theodore E. McCarrick came into his bedroom in Northern New Jersey, looking for the bathroom. Father McCarrick, then 39 and a rising star in the Roman Catholic church, was a close family friend, whom James and his six siblings called Uncle Teddy. James was changing out of his bathing suit to get ready for dinner.

“He said, turn around,” James, who is now 60, recalled in an interview last week. “And I really don’t want to, because I don’t want to show anybody anything.” But he did, he said, and was shocked when Father McCarrick dropped his pants, too. “See, we are the same,” James said he told him. “It’s O.K., we are the same.”

It was the beginning of a sexually abusive relationship that would last nearly 20 years, James said in the interview, the first time he has spoken publicly about the trauma. He asked that his last name be withheld to protect a sibling.

As the decades passed, Father McCarrick became Cardinal McCarrick, one of the most prominent public faces of the Catholic Church in America. He was suddenly removed from ministry last month over a substantiated allegation that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old altar boy in 1971.

The news changed James’s life. “I got down on my knees and I thanked God that I am not alone and it is going to be O.K.,” James said, through sobs, recalling the moment. “And I can tell somebody and someone is going to believe me.”

Interviews and documents obtained by The New York Times after Cardinal McCarrick’s removal showed that some in the church hierarchy had known for decades about allegations that he was sexually harassing and touching adult seminarians. On Monday, The Times reported that a former priest.....

McCarrick was our Archbishop for hears in the Archdiocese of Newark. Now i believe McCarrick was up to no good, but if this kid was 11 at the time of the sexual assault and it continued for 20 years, that would make him 31years old and he was still allowing a priest to abuse him?

Being sexually assaulted as a child tends to screw some people up.

We don’t know what possible threats were made if “James” didn’t continue to allow the abuse. Shame and love for one’s family are powerful motivators.

I have a serious problem with the cardinal being a pedophile, but I have a much more serious problem with him being a Catholic.

The Catholic church lost me a long time ago. They are nothing but a pedophile group and a NWO group. This new pope is horrible.

The world was turned upside down for him at age 11 and he probably thought this was some kind of love relationship? Adults can be abused. Think of all the women living in abusive marriages. Men can also be abused.

It is almost axiomatic; With power comes pedophilia.

Stockholm syndrome is a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity.[1] These feelings, resulting from a bond formed between captor and captives during intimate time spent together, are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims. Generally speaking, Stockholm syndrome consists of "strong emotional ties that develop between two persons where one person intermittently harasses, beats, threatens, abuses, or intimidates the other."[2]

This is not true.

Just because a couple of apples are rotten, doesn’t mean that the entire church is.

Likewise, the Catholic Church has survived bad popes and anti-popes before, and will survive this instance also.

The Catholic Church is not a religion that believe in GOD. In the early 90s, I knew that my ex wife’s kids are being abused, since they were altar boys. I decided to make plans when I saw that they we’re scheduled to be servers and my ex figured it out. A few months later he moved to another church, but soon I divorced her...(and I’m glad, since I met Mrs Deplorable)

The catholic church used to send their pedophile priests to Alaska when they were caught abusing children in the Lower 48. While up here, they raped their way across the entire state. To this day Alaska Natives have a horrific suicide and alcoholism rate, much of it due to these catholic priests. Knowing the sordid history of the catholic church it boggles me that anyone would want to be a part of this satanic cult. The catholic church is truly evil.

Once the trauma sets in, it can be hard to get outside of it....some of that for what you stated...."Why am I still allowing this and why am I still afraid to say something?"...

Many homosexuals were terribly abused as children...I am friends with one who is almost 70, says he hasn't had a physical relationship since he was 34, and still goes to therapy...
