Philippine President Duterte asks God: Let Extra-Judicial Killing victims go to heaven

MANILA, Philippines – As he opened Mindanao's largest drug rehabilitation center, President Rodrigo Duterte said he has asked God to make sure victims of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) go to heaven.

"You enjoy your human rights there in heaven kasi (because) God promised you that victims of EJKs go to heaven. 'Yan ang sabi ko sa Diyos (that's what I told God)," he said on Friday, August 3.

He was giving a speech after unveiling the marker for the P500-million Northern Mindanao Wellness and Reintegration Center donated by a group of Chinese businessmen. The center is touted as proof that his administration is serious about rehabilitating drug addicts.

Duterte then relayed his supposed conversation with God, where his request was granted.

God said, 'Okay, okay.' Will I do that if there is no guarantee? Because they are pitiful. You take drugs, you go to hell. God, just give them a break. said the Philippine President.

Duterte then claimed he made another personal special request to God. "Reserve the hottest place in hell for me and may I burn till eternity," he said.

The President, leader of a predominantly Catholic nation, then again called the God of his critics "stupid."

"Why would God create an oven for his creation kaya sabi ko (that's why I said) I have a God but it is not your stupid God," said Duterte.

The Duterte administration has consistently said it believes in rehabilitating drug addicts and treating drug addiction as a health issue. But alongside these statements are Duterte's own threats to kill drug addicts and drug peddlers and vows to promote policemen who "massacre" criminals.

I don’t have a sense, in that Catholic country, what the people make of
Him mocking God all the time. I’ll bet the muzzies don’t care for it, either. Does anyone have any insight on this point?

It’s a very underdeveloped country in a lot of ways. They have had crooked politicians for decades before Duterte. He turned Davao from a very dangerous city controlled by violent drug lords to a very peaceful and lawful city, mainly by executing the drug dealers. Ordinary people are grateful to live in peace again. There is some opposition to his methods but a lot of people are happy the threat to their safety has been removed.

Duterte is nominally Catholic, but has always been critical of the Catholic church. He was abused by a priest when he was young. He says stupid stuff all the time, but people ignore that and support him because the country is much safer and there is much less corruption. Before he was elected he promised to negotiate with muslims about granting them some autonomy in an area in Southern Mindanao where they have a majority. I guess that was before they attacked Marawi City and the army lost a lot of men retaking the city.

As a young man, he was actually a communist supporter, but now he seems more centrist. He shoots his mouth off all the time, but he gets stuff done and seems to care. He is genuinely popular there and people tend to ignore it when he makes these kind of comments.

People being executed without trial, sometimes by police and sometimes by hit squads working under the approval of the government.

Winslow, I thought you were in Arizona 😁 but I largely agree. Most of the people don’t care what Duterte says. It is results they want. My wife and family voted for him. Remember, of course, the Philippine media, are as hostile to Duterte, as the American media are to Trump, so whatever he thinks, says or does, will be twisted by the media. The Philippines is a third world country. They do things the third world way. There is, essentially, no justice system at all. As far as I know, not one person has ever been held accountable for the massacres at Ampatuan or Mamasapano. Everyone knows who is responsible, but as far as I know, there haven’t been any prosecutions. Indictments, yes, prosecutions, no. If you are looking for justice, go somewhere else. You won’t get it in the Philippines. Sometimes, people get it themselves. The attack on Marawi, definitely soured Duterte on Muslim relations.
Westerners should not make the assumption, that everyone in the rest of the world thinks the way they do. I can assure you, they don’t.
The Philippines was close to becoming a narco state. Duterte stepped in, and rightly or wrongly, has dealt with it. They have a policy called knock and plead. At first they go to the known drug kingpins, and users, mostly methamphetamines, (shabu) and tell them to find another line of work. Then, they give the people ice cream. We hear unconfirmed rumors, that If they have to go back to them again, it’s all about knock BANG. but we are not sure. I am sure you know what that means. 😁 It is unconventional for sure, and we may not like the third world way of thinking, but like it or not, that’s the way it is done.

You are correct.

Our nephew was killed in the crossfire when the mayor ordered a hit on the guy running against him. Six years later the mayor was indicted, but disappeared. He never went to jail, but died a few years later.

Never did go to jail.

As for drugs...one thing was that robberies always were common, but in more recent years the robbers would kill..usually elderly people..

Duterte remains popular among the workers, farmers, and middle class. The PC elite of course hate him, but they live in gated communities so don't worry about crime.

Very sorry for the loss of your nephew. What a horrible experience. No justice here.
Years ago, Davao City was probably the murder capital of the Philippines. Then Duterte and others came along, and said, gentleman, this is going to stop. I am sure we all know what methods were used, but then again, it’s a third world country. They use third world tactics, whether we like it or not.
I have seen some of those gated communities in Manila. In Davao, there are some nice gated communities, but they pale, in comparison to the gated communities I saw in Manila. That is how the elites live. I was jealous. 😁
I talk to the common people in the burungays all the time. Most seem satisfied that Duterte wants to make it safer to walk the streets.
